So, I'm pretty sure I've suffered a fairly large setback with my rear axle. It seems as the longest 30 spline axle shaft I can get my hands on is 39.625" and i need a 40.625" shaft. I think i may be able to get a 35 spline shaft in that length, but the 35 spline side gears for the ARB RD166 will not fit in my RD21. I've got one more source to check with for axle shafts, but it will be of the double spline variety and be almost double the cost of what I budgeted for shafts.

So, I've started to search for a complete D60FF around here on the cheap, but there aren't many to be had on CL.

When the rear axle is assembled how much if any narrower is it then the front? What about having an inch or two cut off the long side. Then you won't have to have the gears reset.

I would cut off the brake flange ends, cut the tube down 1 inch, and have the brake flange ends re-welded on so you can use the inch shorter axles.

I talked to Branik Motorsports, their longest flanged shaft is 40" or they Can do a 4340 double spline for $225 each plus $250 for the splined drive hub.

I have found another housing for $20 and a complete axle but need to get the BOM and WMS measurements first.

...Any updates on your search???

The problem has been worked out.

Tomorrow, I think ill see about taking the bed off to facilitate the spring swap.

What, no pic of the purdy new axle?

Wow, had to dast this thread off....When will she be ready for a shake down run?:D

And when does the trimming commence?

Not for another four months. I am flying out to Chicago this Saturday and won't be back in town until mid September.

We'll see you at T-haven in October then! :D

What's left to do?

Hey, while you are there, you should buy a couple of politicians. I heard they come pretty cheap over in the windy city.:D

What's left to do?

Rear chevy springs
rear drive shaft
move gas tank so said rear drive shaft will clear
rear shocks and mounts
exhaust from the motor back
trim frame for upper front link
coil over mount crossover above engine
Nitrogen in front coil overs and adjust ride height
Trim fenders

Thats what I think of off the top of my head.

That should get it somewhat drivable. Then there are lights winches bumpers sliders cb and the rest of the junk to do.

...I had to get a pic of this going down the road with your head out the window...:D

In my defense of the last Ranger bed, I give you the People's Exhibit A:

Well, the Ranger just barely fits on the trailer. The rear end just squeezes between the fenders and the front has about 1/2" clearance from the edge of the deck. And I really hate loading vehicles backwards on trailers, but to get the right weight distribution it must be done.

Couple of the issues that I'll have to work around when i get back. Looking up at the fuel tank skid and the 3rd member webbing. There's about 3/8" clearance.
