the sohc pan don has (my old one) has a blocked hole from factory with no threads. those pans can with the trucks that had message centers in them. evil is a sport, and even though i added a messaged center into it, sports didnt have them from factory. once i a blue moon you may find on on a truck that was not equipped with the message center.

I'll look when I get home tonight. I'll be able to climb under my truck and have a look also.

damn jd. your calulator has a camera? haha
is that the sludge from when you built it through doing the sohc pan? or when you built the motor the first time?

Reason i rebuilt for the first time and idk why those pics look so crapy !!

pretty gooey pan for sure. I don't think the donor motor from Tim had that much goo in the pan.

I know the ohv pan from the donor doesn't have a oil level sensor, and the sohc doesnt.

Its been rainy and ****ty here, so I havn't wanted to look under my truck to see. Im betting they dropped the sensor as the years wen't on. Too bad. I would have thought it would have been a good thing.

Picked up my bottom end today.
I had a productive evening.

A couple more random pics.
The machine shop installed the wrong main cap bolts. No biggie, swaping them out was quick.
The arp rod cap bolts worked. Lifes good.

They didnt install a block heater, so I'll have to get one. Also, Ill need to research the correct procedure to install one (Its just like installing a frost plug (However thats done) im sure.

Timing chain went on slick, new oil pump...slick. Something must be wrong, things never go that smoothly.

Looks real good!!;)what year are those pistons?what's the game plan now for pulling your motor and getting the heads done?

The pistons are 98-2000.

I didnt want to risk upping my compression too much.

This weekend is out for me. I have to work both nights.
Im thinking next weekend Tim will come over and we will pull my motor.
Then on the Monday I'll run my heads to the machine shop to have the heads checked out and the new springs installed.

Then, maybe towards the end of the week Tim and I can start installing the new motor.

I wont have my headers till early next month. That might be a problem.

If all goes well, by the weekend of Nov 10th I'll be done.

Hell yea.you could always install it with stock manifolds on it and pull them back off when the headers get there.

Nov 11 is my birthday...you building this motor for me;);););):)

Yea, If the headers don't make it in time, thats what I'll do.
Its extra work though, and thats too bad.

Thing is, I don't want to wait any longer than I have to either. Its getting cold and even with an insulated garage, the floors mighty cold. also, the darn fumes in a closed off space.

Since this is my only vehicle, I won't be leaving it apart for just the headers, thats for sure.

Nov 11th bday. I'll be sure to have a beer or two in celebration.

amazing what a hot tank, and a rattle can will do. thats a thing of beauty right there. have you called to see if they can put a rush on your headers? cause that will suck if we have to dunk that motor in without headers.

I tried a rush, but the hold up is pacesetter.
Im not exactly a religious guy, but im prayin.

No worries Tim. I found all the torque specs in my cheepie manual, so at least everything is to spec.

More good news.
The headers are marked as shipped on Summit's site. No tracking number, but marked as shipped.
I'm guessing this means they will physically ship at end of day today.

Life's good!

O yea one thing i forgot to say but hopefully you saw it.the hole where the bolt go thro the pan into the main caps.there is allen inserts, those need to be tightened down against the main cap bolts first before putting in the girdle bolts that go in the pan in.that sounds hard to understand.im hoping you saw them and understand.if not,the two girdle bolts right behind the crank pulley, pull one of those out and look into the hole.the hole is a allen bolt .all those need to be unscrewed loose, then you put the pan on and tighten it down.then you go back and tighten the allen holes against the caps, then put the girdle bolts in.if not the pan won't sit flush against the block or there will be a gap between the pan and girdle bolts.if there is a gap the girdle will be pulled down to the caps and can crack the pan or if the pan don't sit flush against the block it will leak and put stress on the pan and can crack.

if you don't understand go pull one of the two bolts out and look into it and your see its square like a Allen tool.it can thread in and out.
