I am going to have some custom tow shackles plasma cut out of 1.25" thick steel, with 3/4" shackles and 1/2" grade 8 bolts. I designed it in CAD and made a cardboard template to test fit and see how it would look. What does everyone think?

Don't worry, I plan on putting two on there :D

Good idea but the factory hooks are stronger. The weak link in the front tow hook set up is the brackets that are only stamp welded to the top side of them so if you pull too hard on them then the brackets will bend inward and possibly even rip off of the frame.

The previous owner removed the original tow hooks, so I thought it would be more fun to make my own, and look better ;) Why do you think these will be weak? Which factory bracket is the weak point? Is the weak bracket that you speak of still on my truck, or did the previous owner remove it as well?

The bracket that you bolted the mock up parts to.
