I know that voice commands are being understood and executed by my Explorer, but noticed that Navigation functions are not responsive to my voice commands. For example, when I press the TALK button on the steering wheel and say "Navigation," I am presented with a Speak Now prompt and a list of possible commands (see photo). If I then say "Find a street address," the system immediately ignores my command and reverts back to the screen that was displayed when I issued the "Navigation" voice command.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there a hidden setting that has disabled voice commands in Navigation? BTW, I recently did a successful map update followed by a master reset. Perhaps that wrecked the voice-command system?

I'm guessing that you are able to use voice control with other functions like temperature or to make a phone call? If so, I don't know why Navigation is giving you this problem. Have you tried other Navigation commands? Strange.

Just confirmed that Voice Commands work as expected for phone and radio. I decided to explore the Voice Settings menu but when I attempted to make a selection from that menu, I received an error message: "Your device supports Voice Service but it is not enabled in your device settings" (see photo below).

How do I enable Voice Service in my device settings?

You’re in luck, I know a guy...

So, your thought that the map update didn't complete / went wrong is correct. How long did you let it run before you pulled the drive? The full hour? The behavior you're seeing indicates that the nav voice package isn't installed. You can manually edit the autoinstall.lst you have to finish the install. My guess is you pulled a step early and missed this piece:

Code:
[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item1 = 4U5T-14G421-CEC
Open1 = SyncMyRide\4U5T-14G421-CEC.tar.gz
Item2 = 4U5T-14G422-CAF
Open2 = SyncMyRide\4U5T-14G422-CAF.tar.gz
Item3 = 4U5T-14G422-CBF
Open3 = SyncMyRide\4U5T-14G422-CBF.tar.gz
Item4 = 4U5T-14G422-CCF
Open4 = SyncMyRide\4U5T-14G422-CCF.tar.gz
Options = Delay, Include ,Transaction

This last step installs the final map chunk, and the U.S. English, Canadian French and Mexican Spanish nav data.

I let the update happen while driving and pulled-over when prompted to turn off my Explorer and restart the engine. This happened twice, I believe, and at the end (about 45-50 minutes) I received a message that said something like "Update Successful."

I still have the update on a USB drive. What do I need to edit in order to complete the update? I appreciate your help!

Hmm, OK if you turned it off/on, it may have restarted the process and not fully completed. First, save a copy of the autoinstall.lst. Then, edit the one on the drive in notepad so that all it has is that last code section above. Save it, insert and wait. It might take 20-25 minutes or so as those are hefty packages.

You'll also want to check that the map chunk for your region was loaded. Do you know how to get to the bezel diag IVSU Versions screen to check?

Success! After following your instructions and waiting about 25 minutes for the update to happen, my Explorer's navigation voice prompts are once again functional. Thank you very much!

Yes, I know how to access the ISVU Versions screen, and I snapped a photo of the result (see below). Can you tell if the map for my region was loaded?

Yep, you're all set.

Hey UofM Engineer... Go Blue from UM Engineering Class of 1979. Were you born yet?

Excellent. I appreciate the prompt reply, Mr. Engineer!

Happy to help. FYI, no need to go into that Nav menu first for any of those searches. Some more flexible options will pop up as examples once you update to the latest release, hopefully later this month.

Why did you find it necessary to update the maps on a 2020 vehicle? Just curious[/QUOTE]

I had the same problem and followed your instructions, but the voice activated navigation still does not function. Any other thoughts? Should I buy the nav update in case my downloaded version was somehow corrupt?

Thanks for your help.

Do you see a 14G422 package installed in the list on the IVSU Versions screen?

I see three of them listed on the left side of the screen. I wonder if my sync build Is damaged? After the dealer updated the sync build a few months back the voice prompts many times cut out abruptly mid sentence leaving several words out. Interestingly, the map update said it was completed successfully both times (full download, then shortened version you suggested) and shows NA119 on the Sync Software versions screen.

So, it looks like it's there. Do you see any nav command samples in the list that pops when you press the voice button? The only other thing I can think of, that I've only ever seen on a bench, is that something didn't mount properly. You can try a master reset as that could fix it.

Choppy prompts after a software update is symptomatic of a lot of activity going on with file transfers. Could be some issue from the update that was done.
