I recently picked up a 96 explorer and was wondering how removal of the fenders would be to put new ones on one side is dented and the other side is rusty?

Does anyone know of a good place to get fenders?

thank you

Pretty simple to find the bolts. If it's already dented you aren't going to ruin it anymore trying to find all the bolts for removal. Investigate your vehicle.... it helps a lot.

A local junk yard will do you good on a new fender. You might even get a color matched one.

For example of a junk yard, I have Pull and Save here in Spokane. www.pullandsave.com

Just do some googling.

this isn't bad to do at all. 5 or 6 bolts you can see under the hood, one behind front bumper, one that attaches to headlight buckets, two at the bottom of the fender by the doors. few screws around the inner fender. hardest part for me was getting the plastic trim off of the bottom. easy to realign using the factory washers, just pay attention to how they come out. good luck:salute:

Hey c,mike I know this is 9 years since you posted about 96 for fenders. Just had a branch fall on my 96 XLT and it smushed in the hood and bent the driver's side fender. So at my local Pull A Part they have several color matched Explorers 96-2001. Do you think any hood and any )front drivers) fender made between 96-01 would bolt onto my 96? I don't mind drill extra holes if needed. I don't need plastic trim that matches I just need a fender without a huge dent in it.. Thanks in advance. Jim

Thanks Turdle I'll let you know know if I go for the fender too- not just the hood. Kinda hard to resist at only $45 for a color matched (sun faded) fender. Hood is $50. I tried to attache files and it didn't work
