91 xl 2 door
So a while back I bought my first car, my 1991 ford explorer 2 door, and it’s got 200,000km on it and I’ve been driving the heck out of it and I love it, however recently I’ve been having trouble with my catalytic converter flange on my Y pipe and cannot seem to find any way to find/buy a different Y pipe or a addapter flange. If any one can help that’d be awesome. Thanks

Welcome to the site. Is this for the 4.0L engine?

Seems like a good excuse for a set of headers.

Borla headers, if still available for the 4.0, do include a new y pipe

Pace setter and jba headers re use the factory y pipe

91 explorer only came with one engine lol

Have you considered having an exhaust shop just cut it out and replace it with pipe?

You can use the y pipe from any 90-94 4.0 explorer or ranger. The 93-94 trucks have two 02 sensors but you can just plug or ignore one of them

I’d like to do headers, however my budget at the moment is a little tight. Later down the road I plan on doing a full rebuild, with a cam and I think I’ll probably do headers at the same time. I’m just looking for a quick easy way to get the truck back on the road

junkyards are goldmines for these old fords. might get lucky there.

Might be worth checking the local junkyards, but I’m going to try and cut up and a 2 into 1 exhaust adapter. I’ll post some pictures when it’s done

I have made a 2-1 adapter on that same piece there a couple of times
You can shove two pipes inside that oval and weld them up then reduce it down to a single 2.5”’pipe or so
Any exhaust shop can do this
There is no aftermarket cat converter that will bolt up. You have to fabricate

I have started to build my new exhaust over the span of a couple of different pay periods, works been a little bit iffy lately but I’m making it work. I started out by cutting up a 3 inch y pipe and attaching it to the oval pipe. As I’m sure you can tell I’m not a great welder but it holds together and sounds okay, at the moment my whole exhaust consists of a 2 1/2 inch cherry bomb but I’m slowly building it together, I’m thinking about doing a side exit

Nice looking adapter! I’ve made a few of those Myself

You gonna run 3” pipe back to the cherry bomb and then reduce down to 2.5”? 2.5 is a good size for a 4.0 any larger tail pipe and you lose low end torque

That’s the plan, I went and got a reducer to 2.5” and I put a length of pipe on it as well as the cherry bomb and it’s running great and sounding pretty good
