Has anyone found a source for a replacement seat recline lever? Or a clever fix/mod. Mine is broken on the driver's seat as were the levers on several STs I looked at before I found mine. It seems to be a weak point.

There is one on eBay for $100....:confused2:

Years ago, but did you find a replacement and a how to replace video?

Nope
But I have fixed these a few times let me find the link to my repair

Here is a thread where I did a 302 conversion into a 02 sport trac
Half way through I also had to fix the recline lever on the drivers seat

Page 2 of this thread shows how I did it

First I glued and riveted a piece of bent metal to what remained of the arm
Then I added a simple strap from some backpack webbing so you can grab it and recline the seat
It won’t break again because the strap is not in the way of ingress and egress

Hope this helps
Those cable recline seats are a pita

Thank you very much, but my handle is molded plastic. You have to remove the entire seat to even try to fabricate something. I am disabled and cannot do this. Is there some kind of shop I could take this to?

HI, did you locate the link? The lever on the 2001 looks like this and was only used on 2001.

I have the 01. Yes please if you could take pictures? Do any look like mine? According to the little info the dealer has that lever on the 01 was only used in 01. I do not even think the seats were the same. I am not used to this forum and the spam ads make it horrific to search here. Can I put my email here? islandmobilenotary@gmail.com

Thinking about that lever. Fix that to normal, break again, repeat.

I wonder if a simple hole to fit a washer enforced bolt thru, holding a strap as pictured above, would work. Hole thru remaining piece, smooth the jagged broken edge. Inexpensive attempt.

I do not see the picture above. There is a thread where someone fabricated a metal seat lever with a strap. It was for a different year, however and not certain that could be done on mine.

I was the one who fabricated the strap for the older metal lever seats as well. On those trucks (95-01) the metal gets bent from getting in and out and then eventually snaps. The fix for that is also a fabric strap… we have a thread going for those seats already

This thread is for the 01-02 trac seats are the worst!
The whole handle is plastic and they pull on cables to do the recline on each side. Once the plastic handle breaks ( like in the pic) you are left with just a little knub.

This is why I glued (e3000 hobby glue) and ran a large aluminum Rivet through the broken plastic bit and added a bent piece of metal. Notice the metal is placed underneath the plastic knub, this way leverage pulling up is in your favor
The metal gives the length needed to gain the leverage for pulling the cables. I added a strap so your hand has something to grab onto and the handle no longer sticks out where your hip is going to hit it when getting in and out

The link to that thread and two 2️⃣ pictures of the repair are posted above

I obviously do not know how ro navigate this forum. When you say above, where is above? How do you remove the seat trim panel? I drove to my mechanic shop. He released the seat for me, but he's to swamped to mess with it right now. I was thinking could a welding shop fabricate a handle?

The trim panel comes off with two or three screws usually they are Phillips head

One is around the front, one in the back and one usually from the side/ underneath use flashlight and look around
If you only find two screws then sometimes there is a push pull clip somewhere in the middle, it will release with a good tug

The piece of metal I used was just a 3” long piece of black metal I had in the shop shaped like a z, it worked perfectly

I could not find the screws. The mechanic thought they were clips. He couldn't find the screws. I don't think he was in the mood to deal with this project of mine today. I shared your photos to Sport Trac Facebook Group. I decided it's silly to hunt a used part , because it will probably break too due to age. Stupid question but what type of glue should be used? You luckily had a metal bracket with 2 holes for screws. Any idea what search words to use for a bracket? Thank you for your help.

E6000 hobby glue
I swear by this stuff

Piece of metal shaped like this
IMG_2326.jpeg

It is about 5” long, 1” wide 1/4” thick steel painted black
I put two holes in it
One for the rivet and one for the strap
Like this

IMG_2326.jpeg

So my crazy quick drawing
The red represents your broken handle what’s left of it
Blue is the rivet going through the metal and then through the broken plastic.
The green is the glue between broken plastic existing handle piece and the new metal. Re enforce
The orange is a bolt washer and nut which goes through the new metal handle and up into the new black loop strap made from old backpack strap, thread and needle

I hope this helps!
