I have the 98 SOHC V6, and I have a K&N filter, Drilled Airbox, Diablo Chip, and Flowmaster 50 series exhaust. I notice definite improvements in my acceleration, but what could I expect for my 0-60 times? Anyone have similar mods and had their truck dynoed or tested? Thanx guyz

8.5-9 possibly?

Hmmm

Well, then do u think i would be able to beat a new Chevy Trailblazer? They are pretty quick.... I had read that the 98 SOHC came with a 0-60 time of 8.1 seconds off of some links people gave me on here a while back. So is this not correct? Thanx

actually its probably a little lower than i estimated, a new chevy trailblazer has 270 280 hp? i think you'd lose.

yeah, there's no way an explorer could beat a trailblazer 0-60 or 1/4mile. the trailblazer's 6cyl engine is more powerful than an explorer with a V-8.

Damn

Damn... there's this kid i know who thinks his new chevy trailblazer is just the shiznit. I would love to smoke him in my explorer. I need a damn supercharger

even with a supercharger it'll be a close race....

you need to make your explorer a twin turbo V-6! then you'll really kick some ass. a pair of garrett or forward motion turbochargers would give you about 700+ hp (and almost zero turbo lag, you wouldn't even notice it with that kind of boost).

of course you have to do a little more work to it (bigger fuel lines, hi-flow fuel pump, pistons, rods, etc..) so your explorer can handle it.

Just wait until I go to WyoTech this July. Maybe I'll have an X that will beat Troll's.

cool, what are your plans?
i wish i had the time and $$ to do that kinda stuff.
since you already have your explorer lowered so much, the handling must be great.

??

What's Wyotech and what are your planz Punkchild?

WyoTech is Wyoming Technical Institue, you might see advertisments for it if you watch Horsepower TV. I'm going to school there in July. I'm taking an additional 3 month course in high performance engine building and custom fabrication. I'm thinking of putting a built 302 into the X with a world class T-5 or a 6 speed and a 9" rear. Who knows what might happen to the Exploder, I have all the resourses and help I need to do just about anything.

just in reply to your earlier post, Frshpwdr2k,

the 8.1 0-60 times for a 98 SOHC is for a sport, i think, isnt it?...not a 4 door. decent weight difference there, but i could be wrong, im just trying to remember what i saw a long time ago somewhere.

oh

I dont know whether it was for the sport or not. Either way, I swear my explorer feels faster than a 8.5 0-60 time....

i belive you should be some where in the high 7's or so.

All I have to say Punkchild is, BRING IT ON !!!!!!!!!!
I am always in the mood for a challenge.
Troll

HAhaha

Troll how many horsies are you pulling now days?

I'll keep you posted while I'm at Wyotech. If all goes as planned we might have to meet somewhere and see who's faster.
