2000 Ford Explorer LT 5.0
Hi guys,

Just got a 2000 Explorer Limited with the 5.0 engine. I looked online and saw that the 5.0 trim only had AWD, but I did a VIN check and saw that it was listed as 4x2, its also listed 4x2 on the title. Any chance this is a clerical error or did I buy a 4x2 model that someone added a 5.0 engine into? There are no 4x4 switches inside and i'm to big to fit under the car and look for a front u-joint.

Thanks, Wyatt

You can do a VIN search on the automobile. This will tell you quite a bit about how your vehicle left the factory.

The 5.0L was available in 2wd. Might be able to see if there is a cv shaft going to the front wheels without having to get under the car.

All AWD's are 5.0L's, but not all 5.0L's are AWD. You probably have a 4x2 (RWD). Easiest way to know for sure is to remove a front hub cap. If you find a nut threaded on to an axle, it's an AWD. If you see a dust cap you have a RWD.

It is a RWD, checked one of the links above. Thanks for the replies guys.

I had a 5.0 2WD 2001 and now have a 2000 5.0 AWD turned 4WD.

But Koda, well he has about every configuration Ford ever thought about making.

And a couple no one talks about, too.
