01M01 Mileage limit?

There's a new tensioner kit is available from Ford, this is different from the original 00M12 ONP. The tensioner that was first replaced by Ford failed after 52,000 miles, so I went to Ford again and the service writer told me they redesigned the tensioner for a third time. I did the 01M01 with the engine still in the truck, it is possible, just not a lot of room to do things. Total cost was $142.58 including gaskets.

Okay...I've got a 98 SOHC with 68K on the clock. Everything is running perfect. Will Ford do the 00M12 and 01M01 fixes even though there are no symptoms? I'm running out of time on the 7 yr time limit...with my luck everything will happen when my time has expired.

Also, since I bought the truck used I have no way of knowing whether the fixes had been done by the previous owner. Is there a way to find out other than calling my local Ford dealer?

The only way to find out if the ONP's have been done is to call Ford and give them your VIN number. They will be able to tell you if they have been done. Also, mine did not make that much noise either, but when I took the lower oil pan off I found small pieces of chain cassette laying in the bottom of the pan. It was much worse when I took everything apart. I would not put this off to long.

Okay, but will Ford do both fixes if I ask even though there doesn't seem to be anything wrong? And by calling Ford do you mean my local dealer or Ford headquarters? Really don't trust my local dealer to much.

No. They will NOT fix it if they can't diagnose the noise(s). I went through this with my 98 SOHC about a year ago.

I actually took it back to the dealer yesterday because the SAME "marble-like" sound is now LOUDER. Problem now is my 98 now has 78k miles. Not sure how this is going to pan out...... I need to do more research on the Primary Chain Tensioner issue. If anyone can help me out, please EMail me at Katmandu@woh.rr.com

Yes there is. It's called an OASIS report. It's through the Ford Dealer's Network. They run your VIN and can tell you anything that has been done to your Ford Vehicle at any Ford Dealership around.

You've probably got a problem with the cassettes. Those weren't touched on 00M12.
What is inside these "Cassettes" ??

Are these related to the Primary Chain Tensioner ??

As for my situation....I called Ford customer service after posting in this thread. Found out that 00M12 was done on my X by the previous owner but 01M01 wasn't. It was like pulling teeth to get this info though....Ford kept on telling to me to take it to the original dealer to get this info even though I told them I bought it used and had no idea who the original dealer is. Also, was told by Ford that my warranty associated with these fixes ran out in January 2005 (7 yrs on my X originally purchased 01/98).

68K and everything is still running perfect. With no symptoms, I wouldn't have been able to get the fix done anyway. Don't know if I should be happy or bummed about this. Happy that everything is running smooth and bummed that I'll have to pick up the tab when the cassettes eventually crap out.

Well, my EX is REALLY rattling now upon Cold Start-Up and accelleration.

Turns out this "So-Called" Primary Chain Tensioner is actually Officially referred to as the JACKSHAFT Chain Tensioner .

Can someone please verify for me it the part #10 the JACKSHAFT Chain Tensioner and is this part covered under the 01M01 Recall ???

I wish you had read the other posts that I spent time creating. One of the TSB's referred to the front cam cassette, and the other was about the front cam cassette tensioner. Neither had anything to do with the jackshaft, or the guide which its chain rides next to.

The "tensioner" which you keep referring to, is at the front of the driver's side head, top inside corner. You can see it in every picture that you have posted. It is located just below the arrow of the number 4 pointer. Regards,

Yea, I know about that Tensioner. I'm referring to Part # 10.

Yes I remember there were two parts to that chain set. I did replace one. One looked perfect. I think I changed the tensioner piece, on the driver's side. Regards,
