- 2002 Eddie Bauer
Mine cracked on my 2002 Eddie Bauer at about 120,000 miles. I replaced the part myself after painting it with black lacquer. Removing the old part was bit of a pain. I used a gasket scraper and scrapped/broke it off. Be careful as the appliqué panel is actually glued to the window. Once off, I took my time and removed all the old adhesive. I bought some body panel adhesive (black sticky stuff) and reglued it to the window using wood working claps to keep it in place while it dried.
After a while the glued actually caused the primer paint to pull from the plastic back of the panel and the part became loose. I carefully pried it off. Then sanded down all the primer on the back of appliqué and reglued it. This seemed to have worked better.
The lacquer paint I used however has faded rather quickly so I intend to sand it down and repaint the panel with a based coat -clear coat system. Might even paint a graphic on it while I'm at it.
The part cost me $100 at my local dealer.
BTW, does anyone know if the new tail gate (2006 and beyond will fit on a 2002 Explorer?)
