so my 2002 explorer 4x4 sohc xlt vin "e" was knocking so i repaced it with an 03 flex fuel engine and used my original fuel rail, injectors, etc. Afterwards it would only start if you sprayed starting fluid in it. My mechanic said fthe fuel pump was bad so i replaced it. New fuel pump would fire but still didn"t get anything up top. Bought several new fuses and relays but nothing helped. He suggested taking it to this other mechanic with better diagnostic equipment. He found a shorted wire going to fuel pump and repaired it. Now "new" fuel pump is firing correctly but getting nothing up top. Can't get the "theft" light to quit flashing so I told him I think the computer is now bad but he is convinced it is not. I personally think it was either a bad ecm that CAUSED the bad wire, the fuel pump to fail and the theft light OR those 3 things has caused the ECM to go bad. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!
