02 sport trac starter

Currently working on R&Ring the starter in a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, Manual 5 spd., 4.0L, 4x4

Seems to be not enough room to remove the starter through the bottom or the top. I removed the drive shaft from the pinion flange in the front and still seems to be not enough room to remove the starter. Anyone done this before? Could use some advice.

Haven't done it but the instructions say to remove the front axle damper. Did you remove that?

looked at removing the shock, not sure what difference it would make, doesnt seem to be in the way of anything.

Ahh yes i see now, when i thought of the damper i thought it meant the shock, thanks so much!
