06-08 Clear Mounty Tails

I've been thinking about trying to change the looks of the truck a little bit and I have the idea of finding a set of the clear tails that came on the Mountys and then having them smoked with a clearcoat and black paint mixture. I still want to be able to tell they are clear, but want that custom look.

Now when looking for those tail lights they are listed as 06-08 and the red lenses Mounty tails are listed as 02-05. Is that just because they were changed when they changed the Explorer in 06 or did they change the size of them or something about them from 05 to 06?

mounty tail lights in general are a different size than explorer tail lights. you would have to swap to a mounty rear bumper cover to fit the tail lights

Damn. Do you know how much difference there is between the X and Mounty tails?

I honestly don't know. i'll see if i can measure them next time i see a mounty in a parking lot lol

Do you know if the Mounty tails are bigger or smaller? Being bigger wouldn't be a big deal. Smaller is really all that big of a deal either just the fact of having to create a FG piece that would fill the gap.

I wanna say they're taller than ex lights by about 2+ inches. Maybe a mounty owner can chime in wish dimensions

I tried putting 06+ explorer tail lamps on my mountaineer and they seemed to be about 1/2-1" too small all.
