1/4 Mile Run Times

Blow off valve

The turbo builds boost, when you let off the gas your engine doesn't need that boost and it has to go somewhere. If it didn't get vented it can surge back and damage the turbo so vehicles use a diverter/recirculation valve or blow off valve to dump the excess pressure.

The sport recirculates that pressure back around to the intake, and there is a mod (separate from the tune itself) which allows you to change that to a vent to atmosphere setup which just gives you a noise, cool to some, annoying to others, but pick your poison.

I'll leave the tune talk up to Ken though!

I'm a few weeks away from getting my sport! Can't wait for Kens tune. I test drove one the other day from the dealers lot. I found 1st gear to be underwhelming, 2nd gear pulled pretty good. My wife loved it because we drove a new Buick Enclave just prior and that was as slow as our old B9 Tribeca:(. I'm sure the tune will make me smile. I have a quick question about the blow off valve venting. I didn't see a post on how to do the mod. Does anyone have to info? I love the sound having played racing games my whole life, just not sure how the wife will feel as it's her new car not mine:mad:

Forgot about those things since we've been driving turbo deezles since 2000 or so :-)

Let see if I even HAVE a gap tool ?!?

Just closed on our refi and signing on the new rv tonight so probably ordering this weekend !

Awesome! Just got a shipment in of new flashers, but they are going quick. These Sport's are a lot more popular than I thought!

Just took out the explorer with the latest revision of the Super Sport tune with the plugs gapped at .025 and my god. The down low is stronger than before like I expected but...... My God the top end is ridiculous. Honestly at the top of third gear the truck is stupid fast. On top of all that, the tune drives very well and I have no problem driving it every day. The SS tune drives very well, arguably just as good as the 93 tune, and I'm excited for the improvements Ken has to come.

Alright Ken, get that SS tune sent my way ASAP :D

Once the updates are out and we get some decent temps I'm going to try and get mine both on the dyno and down the track for a pass or two.

So if I gap the plugs, run SS and then switch back to DD or stock what will happen to the drivability if I keep the plugs gapped?

Nothing. Mine runs fine on the stock tune still. Just need a little tighter gap for the higher boost on the Super Sport.

Ordering my flasher from Ken today! Thanks for all the info on the forum and the PMs. My sport will be here in a week. I'll break it in for a few hundred miles, throw in some royal purple, gap the plugs, then have some fun!

Reading all of this is exciting...now I just want to see a post that says got into the 12s with just the tune...may need to wait until the humidity fest is over

I don't think it will happen for me until later this year. Just too hot and humid down here. But right now the track is looking promising tonight.

I'll most likely be releasing the SS tune and new 91 and 93 DD tunes sometime next week. Just want to clean up a few small things. I'm pretty **** with this stuff.

Ken do have the stock air filter and box? And do you have the summer tires?

If you get out there tonight try and get a video!

No summer tires and stock airbox. It's 100% stock except the tune. I also have the tow package and dual moon roof.

The wife has been deemed videographer for the evening. So don't expect a big production. I told her as long as she gets most of the pass and a shot of the ET she will get an A+

That sounds good enough to me, not expecting the fast and furious here :D

I've been thinking about opening up my grill like the other poster did to let more fresh air in but want to wait until i decide if i'm going to keep the stock AB or go with an airraid.

Been eyeing a few adapters too so I can start taking some scans

Cant wait to see it Ken!

Any updates from track?

Any updates from track?

Yes, last night was a complete bust. The weather was awful and there was huge oil down so only got 2 runs. After the 2nd run, I figured out I had a pretty big boost leak. The hose pushed off the front turbo some. So no good times.

I pretty much expected it, but wanted to see for myself. Anyone wanting to run a higher HP tune should definitely do a 170 thermostat. On the second run I was close to 220* coolant temp.

And it was also proof that if you want to run higher HP in all conditions, either a new intercooler or water meth injection is needed. At the end of the track air temps were 178*!!!

So although I'd like to keep mine 100% stock for testing, I'm going to make a few changes. We can show ETs on other bone stock Explorers in better weather. I just won't see that for another 4-5 months down here and don't want to wait.

So I will be doing a 170* thermostat and water meth in the next week or so.

Greg, who is in this thread can test the SS tune without these mods up north in a month or so once temps start to come down.

It still went 13.7@99 with a 2.0 60'

Based on the logs, I'd say it was down quite a bit of power with the leak. Frustrating night but still promising considering.

Please let us know which water meth kit you plan to use. If possible can you post an install "how to" on the forum?
