Just grind down the top corner of a tooth on the ring gear for the regular pin to fit through the carrier. Had to do that on my 5.13 gear. Going to use a solid spacer instead of crush sleeve on the 8.8?

Looking great so far!

Nice goodies! :bounce:

It's Christmas in April! I'm jealous I'm not there to open all those goodies up with ya 😉

This might be a good time to crowd source some thoughts recommendations from everyone and Jamie. There are a couple items still to make a few decisions on that we could use recs on:

1. 17" wheel set with correct offset to fit the 37s. Was thinking beadlocks or method beadgrips but haven't landed on the perfect set.
2. Go snorkel or no snorkel. Stock airbox okay?
3. Aftermarket fenders or fender flares. I've seen people go with the bulged out fiberglass fenders but I'm not a huge fan of the look. Would rather have a classic black universal fender but haven't found the right one.
4. We're going for the bronco bii second fuel tank addition. Any recommendations on the build? Run dual pumps? Should we replace the existing original pump? Would be curious to hear what folks have done. My buddies 95 f150 xl runs dual fuel pumps with a nice factory looking setup that could be something to replicate.
5. While doing the engine rebuild, any engine dressing or engine upgrades worthwhile beyond what jamie noted above?

Starting here and then can dive into a few more items later in the build.

Thanks!

My take

Some cut out flares so I can continue to hack up these fender lips

The dual tank setup it’s much easier to just put the aux tank on a switch to fill the main tank, less plumbing no switching of lines
The factory dual tank setup from say a superduty or obs switches 9 ports that’s a feed and return and vapor line for both tanks and to the engine. It also switches the dash level sender wire. That is a lot of plumbing and crazy wiring. All those fuel lines and fittings are more points that can fail. It is much easier to just flip a switch and the aux tank fills the main tank through a tee in the filler neck

Engine mods, with factory exhaust manifolds we are choked at how much power we can make. Factory v8 airbox is good I can also retrofit a snorkel from a jeep or Toyota for sure, no warm air intakes!!!
On a gen 1 the battery is right where the v8 intake wants to live and that is where the coldest freshest air is… re locating the battery is always a plus with me… or leave it where it is an add a snorkel to get cooler fresh air for engine

Dismantle city

Out comes the fender skirts
IMG_4823.jpeg

IMG_4824.jpeg

You run into these screws that won’t come out with a Phillips

IMG_4825.jpeg

IMG_4826.jpeg

So with a grinder I cut a slot and use a straight edge screwdriver

IMG_4827.jpeg

IMG_4828.jpeg

Both skirts out
Now to remove all under hood wiring

IMG_4829.jpeg

IMG_4830.jpeg

PCM is out x2x2 calibration code

IMG_4831.jpeg

IMG_4832.jpeg

IMG_4833.jpeg

IMG_4835.jpeg

Note to self this yellow wire is tapped into the hood lamp feed

IMG_4834.jpeg

Back in 92 they used a ton of copper
IMG_4836.jpeg

Both skirts and all 92 wiring out

This harness will get cut open.
I will then remove all pcm functions and ignition charging systems from this harness and identify all remaining wires. Then this truck will be ready to accept a v8

Midnight madness sale. All items marked with red paint must go.

Hour and half later working nice and easy

Now to remove the tuff country brackets
The worn out stock engine mounts
The stock coil and shock buckets
And the heater box cover so it can be notched to clear the v8

What's under the tarp?

Random suggestion for fender flares, have you considered using flares from a full-size pickup? Like a F-150 or RAM? There are some pretty radically wide options available for both from, say, 2015-2020-ish, and some of those options are sure to be large enough to clear a 37. You'll pay more than universal flares, but you'll stand out from the crowd.

I'm with Josh, I wanna know what that blue beaut is.

It’s my 52 Tudor hot rod project :)

She’s next in line after I fix a few of my personal rigs this spring

Parts are arriving
Engine stand is ready for the 302

Engine teardown and rebuild happening
As well as tearing down the new d44 and existing 8.8

I also ordered a new flywheel for a 96 f150 with 302
The flywheel we have is from a 4.2 v6 so I can’t use it
I’m trying to find a good scatter shield, engine block off plate for the 302 to m5od-r2
eBay is full of ones for the autos

Might have to make one? Or use washers for proper spacing or?

IMG_4883.jpeg

Pictured new dual sump oil pan and melling pickup tube
All new luk clutch and hydraulics for a late model 4.2 (self adjusting clutch much larger then the old 96 302 clutch, this is same clutch I am running in my 03 sport trac… works awesome) hydraulics are for a 92 explorer (same slave cykider as f150)

New anchor 4.0 engine mounts
New ac delco starter for 96 f150 302
Canton 90 degree oil filter adapter

Off topic, but is the red on your floor stain or epoxy?

It’s a stain for sure
House came with it already applied it has held up rather well!

I have made an engine block off/spacer/scatter shield plate out of a piece of aluminum the same thickness. I traced the bell housing and plotted out the center hole overlaying another 6 bolt small block spacer. It worked well. @Josh P has it now. Any pictures Josh?
