hello, 1996 explorer abs seems to be engaging at every stop sign right at the tail end of the stop. peddle pulsates rapidly and buzzes. its a control trac 87000 miles 4wd (2wd, 4wdauto, 4low). truck is hardly moving at all and only happens at very low speeds. getting more frequent with no fault codes. I tried replacing the cheap sensor in rear differential. Any other ideas? rotors and pads are decent. Thank you. thinking about pulling the fuse to abs but i dont like to jerry rig :D

Forscan would show you a graph of all your ABS sensors. If not you can guess at either the front left or right. Another trick is an A/C meter on the sensor, and compare the voltages as you spin the wheel, sometimes it could be very subtle and you may not find it. There is also a chance the tone ring in the hub assembly is very corroded, you may be able to inspect it when you remove the sensor. If that is the case, you will have to buy a new hub. Removing the sensor may destroy it after all these years.

Front sensors are actually magnetic.

Works by reading teeth on the shaft mounted reluctor ring and comparing frequency of pulses on all sensors.

If one sensor reads a low difference the computer "Sees" this as slippage and reduces braking pressure to that wheel.

You might try and clean them off by pulling them out and checking for any metal particle build up.

Just wipe the faces off and reinstall.

May not hurt to visually inspect the face of the ring for chips or abnormalities.
