1997 stand alone

why not right? its just a 5.0
of course without feedback from the 02 sensors and trans the PCM will not be happy, but sure it will start and fire up!

I was thinking of my key subtle words, "engine stand." Starting an engine out of a car is a big deal, really only experienced people should do it. I'd like to see some of the failed attempts if they would have been video taped.

I've seen a set-up like this in a performance shop, and let me tell ya, there was a lot of wiring involved not to mention a cooling system set-up to keep from burning up the engine, a fuel system, and a good stand to keep the engine from crashing to the ground once it's started.

that black plug is the 42 pin connector I am speaking of
every wire to control your drivetrain (engine trans) all go through there EXCEPT the fuel tank wiring and alternator charging harness

You need to map out that 42 pin connector, get yourself a 97 explorer wiring book

IN the explorer that plug is called connector C115 I believe, in a Ranger its C112..... they change the name but it is always 42 pins, they all plug together and MOST of the wires/circuits stay in the same holes...but not always and there are MID YEAR changes, so this is why nobody can make a simple chart of how to control your 5.0 drivetrain. You have to map out the one you have!! and then decide what wires need power, ground, signals, etc.......

Then you will need to give the engine fuel pressure and a return line (36 psi at the rail for a 97)

and then you can start it
Ok thanks so much. So where do I find this book of the wiring ?? 👍😃

That forsale ?
Found that one on eBay for 30 bucks.... That's going to be the closest thing there's no step by step on this but it would give you alot of information about where each wire goes.

Looking out for what u need... On a side note I'm seeing some pretty cool stuff...led for check engine...ect I can see why u want to do this but curious still why not buy a standalone harness for 5.0 obd2 ford?

Just wanted to make it happen on my own

This way your saving alot of headache finding each pin....dont gotta find the plugs or anything it's all ready to go and as u can see it's still pretty complex. Also not that 850 dollars one a cheaper one...or pull a harness from another explorer.

$850 for something you already have in the donor truck is silly IMO
Map out the wires in the factory harness

When I did my 98 Explorer Sport 2WD project I installed a 4.6 out of a 2001 Mustang GT and use the donor vehicles wiring harness. Never even thought about using an aftermarket kit. Took some tweaking but it all came together and ooooh what a blast to drive. Sadly, I sold the truck but I still see it around town every once in a while.
