Hi all!
New to the forum, and to Explorers, but hardly new to 4x4's and offroading.. Which is why I hate the AWD: no push button, no lever; nothing but full time four wheel drive.
I picked up my '98 Limited for a song due to a bad cam sensor and drive assembly (they only knew it ran bad). Now it runs so strong it has found the transfer case chain to be sloppy which leaves me at this cross roads: rebuild the junk ass AWD, or swap in a manual transfer case. I saw some old threads about this, and have a few leads on where to find the case I need but any additional input would be appreciated..
My main concern is putting a case in that can handle the 5.0L, and a programmer with other go faster parts are in its future, and having it work with the electronics. I saw a list of Explorers and Rangers cases can come out of but heard a rumor '97 F-150 cases can be used. true?
When college is done, and I'm back in the white collar working world again Atlas II cases may be affordable but junk yard budget works for now.
