Some guys fill the core up with CLR and let it sit for a while before flushing and back flushing. If stuff comes out with the water, do it again until it’s clean.

You can have okay flow but have a thin amount of buildup on the inside of the tubes that’s hurting heat transfer. You want coolant touching metal, throughout.
