1999 Ford Explorer 4.0 SOHC heat warm not hot

Some guys fill the core up with CLR and let it sit for a while before flushing and back flushing. If stuff comes out with the water, do it again until it’s clean.

Scotty on YouTube has a good video on it

You can have okay flow but have a thin amount of buildup on the inside of the tubes that’s hurting heat transfer. You want coolant touching metal, throughout.

I'll pass on the CLR I've heard awful things about it eating radiators and heater cores

To be honest I went with the clr radiator flush

I just filled the heater core with regular clr let it set for a few minutes then flushed it with the hose repeat

You will be surprised at what comes out
I bought the clr at Lowes a gallon

Ok sounds good man how long is too long lol? also have you had any issues since doing this?

Also how long should i be flushing for and should i use baking soda to neutralize the acid?

Don't let it set for an hour
I'd say a half hour
And no problems
No baking soda water works just fine

Alright ill do that this weekend since we have lots of rain and flooding coming also do i need to neutralize the acid at all? and how long should i be flushing with the water hose?

You will be neutralizing the acid with water there is no need for anything else the water PH is out at about 7.0 which is neutral
Flush it until the water pours out clean Don't over pressurize your heater core
Lots of videos on the internet on just this

Here is exactly how I did it

Awesome man sounds great ill make a video on it and let you know how it goes thanks for the help

Clr bottle has instructions for cleaning a coffee maker, so, I think it'll be fine.

You could get a pail, a small submersible pump, and hoses with fittings . Fill pail with clr or white vinegar , put pump and return line in pail, let it run for an hour, then reverse direction and repeat.

If it's safe for sinks and coffee makers it shouldn't hurt the heater core also i'm on a tight budget right now so i think im just gonna dump it in for 15 minutes and flush it out and see what happens hopefully i will get heat again and not have a hole in the core somewhere

If CLR eats through your heater core, that thing was f*cked to begin with.

It has a very weak acid in it. It is not a buffered solution, so it will instantly and fully neutralize when flushed with water.
