Sway bar is missing or just disconnected?

Since you don't know the history of the vehicle, I would do a complete tune up on the car. Plugs (use Motorcraft recommended plugs), wires if necessary, all filters including fuel filter, pcv valve ( and probably grommet), and at least the two front O2 sensors. Clean the IAC motor at a minimum. You've cleaned the MAF sensor. Don't go buy fancy stuff that claims a bunch of power and mileage. Just get what the factory recommends and you'll be happy.

You can also check...or have it checked...for things like plugged converters, flush and change the cooling system and coolant, check for leaking valve covers, intake gaskets, broken vacuum lines (this one could be prevalent), etc. Sensors such as coolant sensor, inlet air temp, etc can also be changed, but not necessary if you don't suspect a problem. But if they are original, at 170K, I would change them on my car if I were doing everything else. But that's me and I'm **** about that sort of stuff. On someone else's car, I wouldn't unless there were a problem. So it's your choice.

You have a lot of miles on it, but if you take good care of it, give it a good tune up and take care of it, it has a lot more left in it.

thanks for the insight the sway bar is there just disconnected I did do the spark plugs and plan on doing the fuel filter soon I took it in today to the ford dealer and they didnt even notice the sway bar dissconnected (dumb ass) lolol but they said it needed tierods and ball joints.... i will probably do them myself to save alittle money. But for the chuggin I hope the fuel filter replacement helps the chuggin...

The sway bar end links do break often in very cold areas. I would bet that you need new links. If so measure them and get steel parts from a local store, preferably Energy Suspension.

For the engine I'd suspect the IAC solenoid if the other tune up stuff doesn't fix it. Those do wear out eventually, and they directly affect the idle. Welcome,

It is on the intake by the throttle body. BTW it's not just a Ford thing.

Looks like this

can i clean it or do i replace it??? Its not a idle problem its a low rmp chug when drivin

You can replace it or you can try cleaning it.

Is your CEL lit?

The IAC is idle air control, all fuel injected engines have them now. They are a simple plunger valve, they get dirty sometimes. As easy as they are to clean, it's good to do it when any rough running symptom shows up. They can cost as much as $75 or more, but rarely need replacing. Try that and other tune up stuff first. Regards,

What brand of plugs did you put in? If you put Bosch in I guarantee that is your part of your problem.

Did you change the plug wires when you changed your plugs?

No i used autolite and i didnt change the wires... I think i might do that and the fuel filter????

Definitely do the wires, and the filter. That should help.

i hope you do realize this is a 5000 lb vehicle that has a 4 speed transmission and is probably awd with 3:73 gears in it, not a 2500 lb mustang 5.0 running a 5 speed with 4:10's. if your looking for acceleration loose the awd, put a supercharger on it and change your gears out, you would probably also want to change out the cam and run some methonal injection too.

Im not lookin for a HOT ROD just a good runnin car.... Where did i say i was hot roddin this thing???? I had my hot rod.... 72 monte carlo....

I'm going to say it's the wires. My X used to lag slightly up until I hit 2500rpms, then it corrected and ran beautifly from there (kinda as if I had a turboo.. :P). I do have one cylinder (#4) that burns hotter than the rest, don't know why, but it was that way when I bought it. That one eats through spark plugs and wires like no tommorow. I upgraded to higher performance wires recently to see if that would reduce my repair budget and I haven't had to replace anything since then. I should have had to replace four plugs and a wire by now but all has been normal. Check your X for this problem.

Ford wires are near the top, for a keeper. Buy any cheap auto parts brand if you are going to sell the truck anytime soon. Buy Magnacor wires if you want the best. Regards,
