Hey everyone. I just had this issue pop up with my 2000 Explorer. Basically from a dead stop if i let off the break, on a flat plane, it will accelerate to about 35mph on its own. It even feels like it shifts into 2nd gear.

Any help is much appreciated, I just dropped $1K on it and am trying not to go back to the mechanic.

IN neutral what is the idle RPM?

What engine is in your 2000 Explorer?

Sohc or OHV. And what are the RPM's please? You may have a proble with the IAC valve!

Sorry but I don't know what Sohc and OHV are, can you explain? The RPMs are normal. It doesn't look or sound like it is revving up when it accelerates. It just speeds up at a gentle pace.

If you open the hood, does it say 4.0 SOHC on the top or OHV? OHV is a pushrod design and SOHC is the Single Over Head Cam design. if you have a buddy and know how to check the volts to the IAC, check it in park and check it in gear. It might be opening up to much. Also try cleaning you MAF sensor with cleaner from the store. Follow the directions on the can. And if you IAC is shot its like 45 bucks at a local parts store, and you have a year or so warrenty!
