2001 sport
hi i am new to this forum i just bought a 2001 ford explorer sport with 22,000 miles and its starting to act up. when i put in reverse when the motor has warmed up it stalls the rpms drop from 750 to about 500-400 then it dies. it only does it when the motor warms up. when i first start and the car hasn't been run for a while it doesn't do it bc the motor keeps the rpms at 1000 to 1100 i dont understand this i have changed the fuel pump fuel filter and majorly cleaned the aic controler. the trans shifts fine and it only has 22,000 miles i don't know whats up i want to keep this car for a while so please help me out

Welcome to the site!!!

I'd bet on the Idle Air Control Valve. My '01 did the same thing and Ford replaced it under warranty...problem solved. Cleaning mine didn't help as the valve was defective. If you do replace the IAC, make sure you re-set the computer too. You can do this by disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery for about 5 minutes.

Good Luck!

cool thanks alot i will replace it today thanks alot i was just hopeing it wasn't my trany

i did change it and it did the same thing what else should i look for

well i went ahead and took the oil pand off the trans and it turns out that a bolt had fallen out. that make me kinda of made bc at only 22k miles the explorer is falling apart but this is somthing to look for when havin problems in reverse thanks for the help

Thanks for coming back and describing how it got fixed. That is a valuable tool for the rest. Glad you are back amongst the living (car wise)!
