I was replacing a broken cable to parking brake on my 2003 Ford explorer sport trac, as I was doing so I put screw driver in hole to hold tension while placing wire in position and then when I pulled screw driver out I heard a snap, I guess push off where the tension spring was holding on, if that’s what you call it,, (tension spring). Now no tension and been trying to get that hook back in place, I can see where it was set but cannot get it to wind i keep losing grip , does anyone know of easier way or do I need certain tool? i will appreciate your help , thank you

The parking brake cable broke at the rear axle?
Which side? Drivers or passenger?

The issue you are having with hooking the cable to the arm is happening at the brake backing plate?

thank you, for responding, it’s the driver side, but thats not the issue to the center part where tension is created by a spring if thats what you would call it, I placed screw driver in a hole to help hold back tension while placing the brake wire in place, when I pulled out screw driver I heard snap and it was that spring that had unwound, have tried pulling back in place but can’t get it to go 3/4 I would say around, to place where it seemed to have been set oriiginally. It’s a tension that wraps around in the center, not the pedal but the brake tension

Which spring? The one that holds the cable to the frame?
I’m confused on which soring became “unwound”
Makes me think you are taking about something in the foot pedal assembly

Otherwise the little metal springs that attach from the cables to the frame are simpmy there to keep the cables out of harms way when they go Slack

The tension thats created for the parking break cable, it has some type of spring, same design the tape measures have, , it winds up in circulation, it’s in center of the whole mechanism,
