Ford really should have just ended the Explorer name and given this new vehicle a new start.

We really oughta put up a fight, like the mustang guys did. They kept their pony cars RWD, why can't we keep ours 4WD?

Ford has gone a long way down this road already, including the recent announcement of the new plant in Chicago, new jobs created etc. It's a done deal. The TRUCK we all love is no longer in the '11 model year. :thumbdwn::(

Crossover SUV

From what I've read and now seen of the 2011 Explorer I bought one for my wife in 2007. It's called a Toyota Highlander. Don't get me wrong, it rides good, it's been very dependable and for a V6 gets decent gas mileage. However, unlike My Explorer Sport that I've modded and will continue to do so, I even have the Toyota dealer change my oil on the Highlander. I guess my Sport will be the only Explorer that I'll ever own.

They'll come to their senses eventually and bring it back as a real truck again. I hope. Remember the Mustang II? Ford figured that one out, eventually. And if they don't I know where I can always get a 4x4 with 2 solid axles. Unfortunately it starts with a J and ends with a P :(

All that to me is just stupid.. i couldnt even call that thing an explorer :(

I wouldn't mind buying a wrecked one some time and retrofitting the ECOboost into an earlier model. More power then any first gen OHV will have.

Wonder how much of the powertrain layout will mimic the FWD Taurus layout instead of a typical RWD/AWD setup...

When the Taurus SHO came out I thought the same thing then realized that mating the engine to a RWD platform would be "interesting"... But for 350 hp it might be worth the trouble...

But this thing will redefine the term suv I guess...Little towing or carrying capacity, lots of boulevard appeal, suited for mobile entertainment...Like the Ford version of the GMC Terrain...That thing is a pos too..

I wonder what is next... A fwd Ranger???

Wonders if the new Mustang 5.0 will make it's way into the 2011 Explorer??? That would be great, especially with the lighter weight!!!

Bit of a shame the sport trac has to go, we love not having a truck but not having an SUV either, it ticks all our boxes.

Yeah the new explorer looks awkward and not very appealing. Way to cross over for me.

It's a sad day knowing that after I upgrade from my 3rd Gen to a 4th Gen, eventually that will be the last explorer I ever own.

Yeah the v6 ecoboost will be it's biggest motor. Besides the ecoboost is still a lot more powerful that the current v8.

Power is great, but how does it sound?

I want an engine that growls!

Doesn't look like the Ecoboost 6 will be in it during the initial launch.

Sucks the ecoboost 6 isn't available right away. I need a new car/truck now, and the best I can get is the NA 3.5 V6 in the '11 Ex. I've seen what some people have done with the new SHO, and I REALLY want to be able to play a little with the Explorer. :(

Yeah but, that V6 makes more power, and accelerates faster, than just about every V8 ever offered in an Explorer, save for the 4.6 3V.
