2015 Explorer - Speculation / Fact

What I would like to see is body on frame, solid axles, and a v8 option.
I'll keep dreaming...

You can get that model, its called a 2004 Explorer

2004 is IFS and IRS. Explorers never had a solid front axle and the solid rear went away in 2002 except the sport and sport trac

Yepp....

That is actually one thing that with these Explorers I don't mind. Even though they are independent rear ends they still carry plenty of weight and are sprung well enough for it. It still a ford 8.8 anyway...

I've heard a 'facelift' for 2015 and redesign for 2016. I wonder if they will go with full LED headlamps on the 2015 Ex like they have on the F150.

Peter

The current (5th) generation Explorer was only released in 2011. Even a 2017 redesign would be quick in terms of a model's lifespan, especially for a completely new design that didn't use any of its predecessor's components.

The photo posted further up this thread is of the original 'America' concept from 2008 ie predating this generation of Explorer. Ford wouldn't go back to a 6 year old concept for the next generation.

All that being said, I would love to see full LED headlights in a facelift. As I've noted elsewhere, I think the current headlight design is terrible. The new Acura MDX was the first SUV to have all LED headlights, although I'd prefer to see a more advanced implementation like the Audi Matrix Beam headlights.

There won't be a full redesign of the Explorer so soon, probably not until the 2017 model year. The current Explorer has been a success for Ford so the most I'd expect is a mild facelift.

I suspect a new Expedition based on the new F150 will be released before a facelifted Explorer is announced.

My information is consistent with this as well.

Expedition is long overdue for a complete re-do.

Im sure we will see all the options we cant get in the Sport this year added into the 15model year Sport.

Even if its just HID's, Heated Wheel, Rain Sense Wipers, & PowerFold seats.

It must be jet powered and run a low 6 second 1/4 mile.

I saw an Explorer run by a jet engine poking out of a hole in the tailgate at Pacific Raceways in Kent, WA last summer, ran mid 6 seconds. It was the second quickest in the novelty class that day. I wanted to catch up with the owner but I never did.

If they put all the bells & whistles into the sport it would hurt the explorer limted; so i think what ever they up grade into the sport will be sportier looks. I would like to see on it better fancier headlights which i have heard from my dealer that that is what all explorer's will be getting...!

I agree with your thought on the "bells & whistles". I think Ford would want to keep a definite difference between the available packages other than just engine choice.

I would like to see seats that aren't designed for overweight people but instead have sufficient side support to keep you in your seat, which also adds comfort. I would also like to see the second row seats heated, especially when you have the captain chairs. The OEM DVD headrests should have the option to play sound over the stereo and be controllable from the front MFT (especially for little kids - it is difficult to access the screen behind my seat). I would like the doors and specifically the arm rest in the door to be closer to the occupant as it is useless for me where it is now.

What I don't want to see is whatever that concept above is! I also don't want the front end to change much as I think it looks awesome, except for the headlights. Angel eyes around the Projector would be nice and or an LED accent light for the DRLs, like Audi's have. Besides, all accessory lights should be LED, interior and exterior.

I understand that you may be speaking specifically of the Sport, but the Limited has heated rear seats available. I knew you knew that.

With more than 1/3 of the population of this country clinically obese, and probably another third overweight, I would not get your hopes up. Be thankful for all the fat- it means the movie theatre seats have more room for you and I. :D

When would the 2015's come out? I am debating getting an explorer but I don't want to get the current style if they are getting a refresh for 2015.

I'm guessing probably in the Fall of this year, September or October.

My dealer told me earlier this week the order banks open up in April. I read on another thread that they open up 3/15/14. So, I actually think you could get a 2015 in May/June..... I can't wait to find out about the changes, especially for the Sport.

Did some more digging and it looks like the actual production of the 2015 will begin June 2. Orders will be accepted beginning March 15th with scheduling set to begin April 17th.

Final order date for the 2014 models is March 14th.
All dates are estimates and subject to change.

Yes I agree, F150 much nicer.

Expedition look kinda says "Lets just do something so it looks newer"

But that is what they said its a "refresh" not all new.
