A new recall has been issued for select Explorers

Peter
Its odd that FMC 'issued' this recall. Its actually an extension of an existing recall, which they don't have parts to fix. There was a recall on the toe link for our 2015 Explorer, which took almost TWO years to be resolved. Ford's excuse was the pandemic. The pillar recall for our model year was issued January 19th of 2024. We are still waiting for a resolution. Its sucks because the pillar trim fell off while my wife was driving on the freeway. It startled her and she almost caused an accident. Now the trim piece looks like hell and probably won't be replaced by Ford, just the clips.

I started a thread about this as well but it is definitely interesting. Will see what they can come up with for a fix. Ironically enough, my keypad trim on the drivers side came loose just this weekend and had to tape it temporarily to get it home. I have already replaced the keypad (drivers) trim once and replaced the passenger side trim twice. It is a horrible design and I'm glad Ford is finally getting forced to fix it. The clips holding the trim in are tiny and brittle and break very easily, in fact the last time I replaced the passenger side one of the clips broke just taking it out of the package and Ford wouldn't take it back. Aside from that its just 3m double sided tape holding it on which is something I'd expect from a crummy aftermarket piece, not OEM.
I'm going to stop by the dealership today to ask, but I'd imagine they are just going to tell me they are waiting for a fix from Ford and won't have it available for months, and they'll be happy to sell me and charge me labor to fix the keypad trim now, but it won't clear the recall.

I think its important to note the distinction. There are two separate recalls. One is for the a-pillar (the trim surrounding the windshield). The other is for the b-pillar (the trim between the doors, including the keypad).
My explorer is rented on turo so as soon as there is even a whisper of a recall (an advance recall notice, in this case) they unlist it. It sat for 6-9 months waiting on the a-pillar trim parts to be available so they could do the a-pillar trim, and funny enough just a few weeks later my windshield got a crack and got replaced and they (non-ford glass shop) just tore off the ford parts and put on third party parts anyway.

The right front and rear B- pillar trim started to debond from door from my vehicle. I removed both and removed the adhesive from doors. Also scrapped off the foam from backside of the trims. Cleaned off the adhesive from trim and door with lacquer thinner. The is also a small white clip that had pad of foam tape that needed to be cleaned off. Don't pry off the clip, rotate 90 degrees to remove. I applied new 3M trim tape and reinstalled the b-pillar trims. You'll need to pull back the window seal to expose the screw that holds the outer window sweep that needs to be removed so the b-pillar can be removed. I did this last October. So far so good. Of course, now there is a recall. What I saw on my vehicle, the foam was dry and separated from the adhesive. I believe the failure was the trim tape.
