Hey guys I just got anuff money together to get some rims for my explorer. I have a 97 4 door limited AWD explorer and I would like to get some 22s for it. But i don't want to make any modifactions to the truck like rasing it or something to get them to fit. What size 22 would fit and what tire size do I need. Also what kind of offset and bolt pattern too. Thanks in advance and does anyboby have any 22s you would recommend.

I wouldn't recommend 22s personally, here's my reasons:
-Although you'll love looking at them and be thinking to yourself and telling everyone, "yeah I got 22s on my X" you'll be driving around on rubberband tires making your riding experience ****ty.
-With 22s, you'll have more than likely chance a problem with clearance issues, whether it be hitting off you body cause your wheels stick out to far, hitting off your frame when you turn your wheel, etc.

If you still want 22s then I would look up this website www.superbuytires.com they'll show you what will fit your X.

IMO 22s on an Ex are fuggly, and as GTs says, your ride will be absolute S$$t

Hey guys I found some rims that i really like but i don't know if they will fit and is the offset ok?
22x9.5 offset +15 bolt pattern 5x114.3(4.50) & 5 x 120.65

I have 22's on my explorer, and the ride isn't all that bad

I HAVE replaced my shocks, however

The BIGGEST tire size you can fit without rubbing is a 265/35/22 35 is the biggest tire you can have safely, and 265 is the safest width

You need 5 lug rims

22 by 9.5 is where i am at.

I have had mine on for a year and no problems, the ride isn't nearly as bad as everyone thinks. Granted, it isn't the same from 15's to 22's, but It's still bearable. Depends on whether you're willing to sacrifice looks for ride.

Mine was on 22" inch Limited 208's for about 2 months over a year ago. I had mine on Dunlop 285/30 series tires. Ride wasn't THAT bad, i know from experience. But not much over 18" is going to be as good as a 15" wheel. Personally, I say do what you like. I was into big rims back them, but grew out of the negative attention they got me.

Thanks. I ended up getting some RVM Impastos 22s. There 22x9.5. I'm looking for some tires to rap them in. I'll take your advice and go with some 265/35/22 but which tires should i get. Its either the Pirelli Scorpion Zeros-$1108, Kumho Ecstas-$968, or Hankook Ventus-$1020. All prices include shipping and what not. Ryan

I've had both Hankook and Pirellis, both good quality. But Kumhos were on my ex's car and they wore out rather quickly.

Chopin
What was your exs car? got Kumhos on my wifes beemer M6, when I drive the car, the rears wear quickly, maybe not the tire:)

She drove a turbo civic with 17s. They last maybe 15 grand, not very high for a smaller rim on aftermarket tires. My 20s eat up a set im about 15-20 grand

I have Pirelli Scorpion Zero 265/35/22 tires. Very pleased with them

Check out my truck

My buddy has kuhmo's, and they wear a bit faster, but the main issue i didn't like is they appear to me more of a car tire. The pirelli's are classier and (in my opinion) FOR an suv or truck

Yeah I agree, the Pirellis look real sweet. I think i'll be going with the Pirellis. Hey plurr this might sound stupid but how did you get the pin stripe off? I was thinking about just pulling it off myself.

RVM is an eBay brand, FYI. People don't even consider quality anymore. :|

well a hairdryer, WD40 and patience will do it. it took me about 20 minutes to do though.

spray WD40 on stripe. use hairdryer to heat. then, peal one piece at a time.
Eventually, you may be able to heat ahead of yourself (partner) And vuala! It peals right off!

Looks cool doesn't it?

Yeah it looks real nice. I like the look alot.

It's an easy "mod" if you can even call it that.
To me, it seemed to join the top and bottom of my explorer halfs nicely. Before it "seperated it" to my eyes, hard to explain but once it's off you will see.

I think it gives a cleaner appearance.
I cringe to think people bring their truck to a body shop to have them remove it!!!
$$$ i dont have!

not to pick nits, but $1000 on tires every 20k miles versus paying someone to remove a pinstripe? hehe. It's just funny that you would baulk at one, but not the other. :P

Dont Go With 22's. The Ride Quality Sucks! Trust Me On This One. I Ride To Work With A Friend Who Have 22's On A Tahoe And All I Do Is Feel Bumps. Plus The Cost To Maintain The Tire Life Every Year Is Just Insane. Go With 20's With A 275/45 Tire. You Wount Be Mad. Plus 20's Have More Tires On Sale And It Wont Hurt Your Pocket That Bad.
