I have a coolant leak and at first glance it looks like its leaking from the bottom corner of this mini radiator looking thing that is right below the thermostat underneath the front of the engine. What is this thing!? I has a bunch of "fins" so it looks like it would dissipate heat or something and is maybe 5 inches wide by 3 inches tall. I am trying to find a pic of it online to post but no look yet..

in that pic it is by where the lower hose goes form the radiator to the block, then right below that there is like a radiator thing almost looks like its bolted to the front axle.

Sounds like you're talking about the power steering cooler... In which case, coolant wont leak from there, it will leak onto there from above and then drip down.

okay. ill have to look deeper tomorrow in the daylight if i can... right above that would be the water pump? so it is most likey somehwere around there wheather its a gasket, pump itself, or a hose?

Remove the fan and shroud. You will then be able to see the leak --I am guessing the timing cover gasket or water pump weep hole.

If the "wetness" is higher, look at the little elbow bypass hose right off the water pump. The inside of the bend will often split out. If it is wet on this hose then there is your leak.

thank you. i will check tomorrow if we dont get the foot of snow like were supposed to..

Can you take the shroud off while leaving fan on? I couldn't get the shroud off, the radiator was in the way on one of the sides and the pulleys and stuff were in the way on the other side of the fan..and the fan is held on by 4 10mm bolts but they were hard to get at with a socket and I don't think I could re tighten the bolts with a wrench...
