2nd Gen 5.0 v-8 underdrive pulley discussion thread

I need to look at my spare 302 dampeners, is the trigger wheel a removable part? I'd rather pay for a quality aftermarket SFI part with a bolt on pulley. I need an 8-rib pulley, it is likely that we could have an OEM part machined to take a common pulley.

So let me get this straight, put this pully on and I shouldn't have a problem with charging problems because they started using better alts? 5.0 Here, I don't understand why you would need a different belt size, the tensioner should just adjust itself.. right?

If you were somehow able to build/buy a smaller pulley, your stock belt would become too long. Your tensior wouldn't be able to keep proper tension on it. Have you ever taken your belt on and off? If your belt was just slightly larger, you'd probably get a lot of slipping and annoying squeeking. :(

Did you even read the thread? There is NO pully. :thumbdwn:

I read it, and Tried to understand it.. I guess I failed... =(

The belt tensioners have a short adjustment range, likely about 1.5", thus a 3/4" long or short belt(from perfect) would be almost rubbing the tensioner on either stop. Any pulley changes will require a belt change of more than 3/4".

The 302 Explorer balancer has the pulley molded into it, not bolted on. It is not replaceable. Look above seven posts at the stock balancer on the right. Below is a custom balancer which I just received. It has the crank trigger on it, and should accept any 94/95 Mustang pulley. I needed this as a 28oz. balancer for my 332 I'm planning for. You could do the same thing with a 50oz. stock weight balancer, and there are under drive crank pulleys for 94/95 Mustangs.

Look at the stock diameter of the crank pulley, I believe that it's about 5.75" in size. You will not gain much in power or economy by going much smaller. Feel free to try it, but the cost is not cheap. I paid over $300 for this balancer, and it does not include a pulley. Good luck,

My old house had the same floor as you.

What if we dont get answers we are looking fof

There are no underdrive pulleys for the 2nd gen 302's. The crank balancer has a integral pulley, it does not come off.

What I had made was for a SBF that has 28oz imbalance, so I had to combine a normal balancer with the Explorer trigger wheel. That resulted in using a 94/95 crank pulley. But nobody will do that just to be able to change pulley sizes.

Concentrate on other things, big weaknesses, to gain power from the 2nd gen Explorer.
