2nd Row Heated Seats?

I have been comparing an Acura MDX and 2011 Ford Explorer, my wife likes the "idea" of 2nd row heated seats, which are available in the Acura. We test drove a 2011 Ford Explorer the other day and in the cluster with the rear HVAC controls it looks like there are two "blank" buttons, they are shaped like other buttons but do not press in or have any logo/lighting. Does anyone know if this is or will be an option in the future?

Seems like a loaded Explorer Limited is encroaching in price point to some other "higher end" vehicles but missing some features like this and power adjust steering wheel. All of this I could care less about, but the wife wants it and I want to buy American.

I would like to know that as well. Heated Rear Seats could and should become available at some point but I don't keep up my hopes very high in regards to the powered steering-column. That might be a feature reserved for a potential new Lincoln Aviator build on the new Explorer-Platform. The Lincoln MKX has this feature but the Ford Edge doesn't.

If you go look at one and look at the 2nd row AC control, there is a spot that LOOKS like it is a provision for future buttons, one on the left and one on the right of the AC control.

i was in a limited the other day. they DO have optional rear heated seats.

That would be news to me. If that's the case, I'm curious why Ford doesn't mention this feature - neither on their website nor in the brochure..

Ford's web site says this--

Available perforated, leather-trimmed, heated and cooled front bucket seats deliver four-season comfort for you and your passenger. The seats are included in the available Luxury Seating Package in Limited models and feature 10-way power with power lumbar and recline. The driver’s side seat has memory feature for two drivers. Also included in the Luxury Seating Package is the PowerFold™ third-row seat that can fold flat for convenient storage, simply at the touch of a button.

No mention of second row.

I haven't seen any mention of a heated second row in any of Ford's ad material.

However, we did see something odd when looking at a new Ex this weekend. When folding the second row forward to gain access to the third row, there is a wiring harness under the 2nd row seat that is connected to something in the seat itself.

What could that be for?
There aren't seatbelt warnings for 2nd row passengers? are there?
Some sort of pressure sensor related to airbag deployment?

Dealer was no help.....

Ejection seat for unruly passengers??;)

Second row inflatable seatbelts are still too early to be at a dealership. They were just removed from the "delayed" list 2-3 weeks ago (same period of time the factory was down). Besides, those are only for the outside 2 seats and I'm 75% sure their harness is in the side compartment and not the seat itself.

Was this EX a 6-passenger configuration rather than 7? If so, the wiring could have something to do with the automatic folding feature of the second row seats.

BTW, I also checked the owners guide - it doesn't mention heated second row seats either. Question to the member who claimed this feature: Where were the buttons to activate the heating located?

Yeah, I haven't seen anything about heated 2nd row of seats in the new Explorer. And it seems that the inflatable 2nd row seat belts will start production in Feb.

We looked at both, so I can't be sure. I thought it was a bench 2nd row... but maybe not.

Just got confirmation that the 2nd row indeed does not have heated seats.

They have to add it, even KIA has rear heated seats now, lol

They either have to add it or they will "reserve" that feature for a potential 2012 (or later) Lincoln-Version..

The limited I rode in on this last Sat had second row heated seats. Trying to get stick now for posting.

This is getting REALLY interesting since you already are the second member stating that.

My daughter brought it up during the test drive. She said they felt wonderful and we were not to buy a vehicle without them.
