2nd Row Heated Seats?

Katzkin sells a nice seat warmer kit. Though it seems to be geared towards adding it when replacing seat coversm, surely a local trim shop could install it in the back.

IDK what it'd cost to do it aftermarket, but it's an option.

i was in a limited the other day. they DO have optional rear heated seats.
I just received a reply from Ford of Canada and they said that they do not offer 2nd row heated seats on the 2011 Explorer in Canada.

I remember the buttons being fairly cheap looking- but almost itentitical (if not a direct use) of the rear heated seat switch in my brothers 10' taurus. Black on black. Admittedly enough, they look like a set that looks just like it on ebay for $180. Our local dealer is installing them free to all explorers fitted with front heated seats. BUT when I saw it, it looked factory... technically it was the prototype when I was searching it inch by inch... but havent been in a limited since they officially came out.. only an XLT with cloth. look for them on the back portion of the of the front center console (hope that made sence)

I remember seeing a Ford Taurus SHO on the lot that had them listed. I wonder if the dealers are buying the parts for the Taurus and putting them in?

Second row inflatable seatbelts are still too early to be at a dealership. They were just removed from the "delayed" list 2-3 weeks ago (same period of time the factory was down). Besides, those are only for the outside 2 seats and I'm 75% sure their harness is in the side compartment and not the seat itself.

Does that mean that the inflatable belts are now an available option? I'm getting so much conflicting info on when they will be available.. from March to May to canceled for 2011.

Hey now thats a great mod.......my kids are complaining there's no 2ND row heated seats after coming from a GMC Yukon Denali that had them so if we can do a mod with Taurus parts I would be interested.

Anyone done this yet?

Hey Blwnsmoke,

I hope I was able to answer your questions in the message I replied to. If you have any further questions, shoot me a PM. Have a great Tuesday!

Yes you did, I actually replied back to you. I got a response back from a rep at Ford who stated they are available effective 3/1/11.

My dealer was able to edit the order and add the option on but it states "pending plant approval" so I'm hoping they approve the add on.

Seni,

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I was wondering if you got the PM I sent you last night since you are on the board this morning. I know between facebook and here, everyone is keeping you busy. I'm hoping this check will be the last one for a while as my fingers are crossed for a VIN and build date!

I sourced parts, it's a pretty easy and cheap mod. No need to get Taurus parts (unless the switches match). If you do the labor, it's under $200 with quality parts. I'm leaning towards adding remote start instead.

Are you able to post the parts for the heated seats?

Im going to look at how hard it is to do it.

Mounting switches might be a problem though or would they tie into front?

Sure. They are aftermarket, but they are cf and the pad sizes were a little bigger than a lot of kits I saw. Dual position, and $89 shipped.

The switches would need power, and I would guess install someplace in reach of your back seat passengers. I was thinking on the back of the main center console so I can reach back and turn them on, or the kids could. Don't have my ex yet...so I can't even give a suggestion.

Very nice thanks

Even their switches look very OEM

I will find out if they have a kit for the 11 Explorer

Center console rear facing side is a good spot, I also have the rear 2nd row center console so it might be good as well. Maybe hidden switches inside the console to keep OEM look.

Do you think the power port inside the console is a good power source or too much load for that circuit?

I emailed their customer support about our 11 Explorers, it is a little more complicated but still worthwhile.

Thank you for you interest in Champion seat heaters. Our seat heaters are compatible for your second row seats of your vehicle. However, the second row seats in your vehicle present 2 additional install challenges. First, the wiring leads on the harness that connect to the power source may need to be extended from the original 10 feet to reach the power source. However, this is easily remedied by splicing in additional wire length.

Secondly, extra care must be taken when fitting the harness to allow a full range of seat movement without causing damage to the wires. Basically, the second row seats have a range of movement that is not present in the driver’s seat for example. As a result, you will want to ensure that seat has a full range of motion without chafing or pulling the wires as this can lead to defect when excessive stress is placed on the harness. Although it is not complex, it can be time consuming to determine the correct positioning of the harness.

We do install thousands of these same seat heaters for car dealerships and the public and have experienced technicians on staff to answer any further questions you may have. We also have installed many 2nd row seat heaters. Our technicians can also provide technical support to ensure a successful install during our business hours.

Lastly, our seat heaters are currently on special for 2 seat heaters for $99 plus a $15 shipping charge. This special is not available through the web though and orders must be placed via phone or email.

I look forward to answering any further questions you may have.

Best Regards,
Sarah

Ohhh.....$99 for both. I might have to do this and remote start. She made a good point about the seat movement. Keep in mind not just recline, but flip and fold (or whatever they do....mine isn't here yet).

For the power leads, I recall someone found an extra pigtail in the rear seat area. If I run across it, I will share.

Also, I don't have power fold third row, but I bet the wiring is there.

I had a good look at the 2nd row buckets and the covers look like they could be removed quite easily to allow for heat pad install.

The wiring harness on the floor is for the PowerFold, Do you think it is a circuit that we could use or depends on AMP rating of the fuse?

I'm sure the fuse rating is the big issue. Since I haven't got my Ex nore the seat pads, I am a bit useless. Sorry :(
