2wd SAS

If you're doing this for sh!ts and giggles I agree, go with a more traditional lift route.

SOA: under $200
Spindles: $~500
3" body lift: under $300?

Fitting 35s or 36s: still a heluva lot cheaper and more practical than SAS.

I don't think it's a joke.

No offense to Lil'X, but he's new to the modding world and often needs to research.
 






it would be alot cheaper to do spindles, TT, and a 3" body lift with spring over axle in back than it would be to have an SAS done even without the transfer and front driveline. this would give you room to run 37's, hell maybe even 38's with minor trimming since you arent gonna take it off pavement. you can run alot bigger tire compared to lift on a truck that wont ever flex offroad.
 






If you could get 38s on it, I will be the first to say that would look BAD ASS.

However I think you'd be replacing wheel bearings, ball joints, and tie rods more often than your tires.

That and I do not think the 8.8 in Explorers can handle 38's. The axle splines are to small. You would end up have to replace the parts in your rear end all the time.
But I don't know I could be wrong about this if I am feel free to correct me on this.
 






Yea, that is definately true, I would not want to make any quick movements with 38s on the front, the tie rods may just break.

If you want 4x4, then the easiest way to get it on your truck is with a SAS
 






i have a Bl TT and AAL and warrior shackles. i wanted to do the SOA and 3" spindle and put some larger meats on it but i figured like you guys were saying that id be replaing ball joints and parts like crazy. so thats why i wanna do the SAS. and ive been thinking about it and really want to go the SAS and go 4wd since im gonna do something big i might as well go with it.
 






havea question i can get a D44 front axle 5 lug ford, complete w/ coil springs for $200....or a D44 front axle out of an 77' f-250, 4.10ratio, closed knuckle small hub drum to drum for $150....what would be better im guessing the first?
 






You keep telling us 2 different things:

That you want to SAS and convert to 4x4

and

That you want to SAS and stay 2wd. Which is it?

If you go SAS to go 4x4, do it all at once; you'll end up saving money and time.
 






yes thats what i have decided, to do it all at once...so which in your opinion is a better donor?
 






Yup, probably the first. That one has discs?

And if the lug pattern is different than 5 on 4.5 you'll probably want to get spacer adapters for the rear so all 4 corners are the same.
 






not sure about discs i think so though. thanks for the advice.
 






oh and another question...transfer case..what exactly needs to be done.do you know or know where a thread is on it or something? is the transfer case just bolt on to the tranny? what else also besides t-case diffy and i guess a new tranny output would i need for the 4wd?
