I recently bought a 302 short block from a '97 Explorer to use in my V-8 Ranger project. I got it home from the salvage yard and took it apart. The number 2 rod had spun a bearing and munched the crank (as well as ruining the rod and the one adjacent to it). I have a 302 in a 1974 Ranchero that I am parting out. Will the crank and rod/ rods fit in the '97 block and accept the '97 harmonic balancer etc. If these will work, are the '74 rods made any better? The Explorer rods have a F2TE casting number. I don't recall what the Ranchero rod number is, as I took it apart about 18 years ago to replace the bearings. Crank was in great shape when I put bearings in, hopefully it's still useable, if it will fit. I'm just trying to save some labor, as the Ranchero engine is still complete. I don't want to take it apart just to compare and find out it won't fit. THANKS FOR THE HELP.

I believe the balance weight is different.

Older-non roller blocks use a 28 in oz reference-
newer roller blocks use a 50in oz balance weight.
