Trail repair complete
4wd restored
Not terrible for working in the mud
Knuckle cleaned up and ready for spindle
New axle shaft ready to go
Cleaned and prepped at the shop new spicer 5760x non greasable u joint (oem)
I just did spindle bearings and seals last year, good cleaning and fresh grease
These spindles are obsolete. I have a few of them. You can see they start to get *****ed up at the threads where the lock ring washer sits. If this area gets too worn it allows the lock ring washer to work back and forth and eventually results in loss of preload and loose wheel bearings.
This one is still okay
I use two thick spindle nuts, the inner and outer are both the large thick style ones. There is room on the spindle
Carefully set preload and torque outer to 200 ft lbs
I always put the notch in the spindle up, this way you can see what you are working with
These warn hubs were made for a full floater jeep rear axle setup, they are the upgraded / strongest d35 hub available… I wonder if that’s why the u joint failed and chewed up the old yokes? Usually a hub explodes first
Probably just because I was turned near full lock and dang near full throttle to get her out of the ditch we created
Good ol Bronco!!
