Replaced my oem fuel pump 2-3 yrs ago(with an aftermarket pump). Replaced that one with another aftermarket, and now I think this one's going bad. Lose speed, pull over low idle, might die might not. I just turn it off for 5mins or so and its ready(for another two miles or however many it wants to go). While waiting for it I turn the key. Sometimes pump dont even come on.
While parked in idle for say 10mins I can hear the pump go from the loud whine to a loan moan, idle gets rough and it'll die.
CODES: insufficient EGR flow. and o2 sensor
Went to ford he said its bad aftermarket pump and go with motorcraft. Said nothin would cause those problems but the pump. He could be right since my o.e.m lasted about 10yrs compared to these last two that have been within the last 1-2yrs. I think my shadetree mechanic gets his parts from oreillys if possible. Filter was changed with the pump thats on now so that shouldnt be the issue. Plugs and wires changed recent enough(motorcraft). Oh yeah I just went passed 288,000 miles, but the engine and tranny are fine. WHAT DO YAW THINK?????????????????????????????????????????

Change fuel filter when you change the pump. Period. You don't know what's been passed on to the filter. Next, unless you like dropping the tank a lot and swapping pumps, buy the best pump you can. Factory is the way I go in a stock application. But before I condemned the pump, I would properly diagnose the problem with a pressure check AND a flow check. Also, look at the relay.

Well you should change the filter every 25K miles or so or when you change the pump. Check your fuel pressure if you want to be sure first but it sounds like the pump is bad.

BUT!!!!Aftermarket fuel pumps ARE GARBAGE. You never know what you are getting, one day it could be the same supplier as Motorcraft the next it could be made in China in some guys basement. If the price sounds too good they are probably sourcing the cheapest parts with the lowest quality control.

If its a critical part go Motorcraft, check online, with Rockauto.com the prices are competitive. Also, you can goto the Motorcraft site and find a wholesaler near you, they give good discounts.

The only thing about Rock Auto that bothers me is their return policy. If you have to return something, you have to pay the shipping back to wherever it needs to go. Then you've wasted everything you've saved. Contrary to popular belief, Rock Auto doesn't own a single automotive part. They are not a warehouse or parts store. They are simply a broker for several different warehouses. I really like using them, but I've got a few items sitting here on my shelf that need to be returned defective, but it's not worth the freight back to the 4 different warehouses they need to go to.

Even on defectives?

Yeah, the filter on it now was put on with the pump that is on now. Fuel pump relay was changed(motorcraft), maf and throttle body cleaned. Did notice I need to replace iac(real gunked up). My guy only gets parts made in the us but I think he said the pump was $175. Motorcraft is around $320. Do the math, guess I need to buy a Motorcraft pump asap. I 've spent a lot of time tryin to diagnose this problem usin this forum and other opinions without wastin money. So, after personal experience, this forum, other opinions, Ford mechanic, and back here, I think I'll shell out the money for the o.e.m pump. And a new filter :D
THANX FELLAS
