I just bought a 1998 Merc Mounty with a 302 swap. It is OBD1. I just realized that my 4wd will not engage. Anybody have a clue as to why it might be out?

not knowing exactly what the previous owner did with 302 swap I have no clue. you can engage the 4wd manually too....Ill look for the thread..

I turn the little switch on the dash, no engage. Does the original computer manage the tranny/transfer case/front diff?

not sure, I would think so. Hopefully someone with more knowlage than me will chime in. But if you remove the shift motor on top of the transfercase you can manually put it in 4wd with needle nose pliers. Their is a little dial under the shif motor that you turn. Let me ask you this. Does your truck have a front driveshaft connected? does it even have a tranfercase? Seeing as they put a cobra motor in it it's very possible they converted it to 2wd.

Everything is there, and it codes out with a AIRB and AIRD Solenoid Circut failure. Could this be for the 4wd?

Do you have a shift motor on your TC, look for that? If you do then the TC is not stock, Ford did not make a 4WD 302 Explorer.

Thus what TC do you have? The OEM controls may or may not be in the truck, AWD Explorers didn't come with any 4WD control components, just most of the wiring.
