2003 explorer sport
I've got a 2003 Explorer Sport 4wd (2nd generation) and the 4wd low dash light does not come on and there is no click under the dash when I turn the
knob to "4wd low". The light does come on and there is a click under the
dash when I turn it to "4wd hi". I'm wondering if it is even working at all.
Also, does anyone know of a dependable mechanic in the Huntington Beach are
that is good with Explorers?

Easiest way to tell if the 4wd is working is to go slowly on dry pavement, through it in Neutral and turn sharply. You should feel the front are rear axles bind and the vehicle will come to a stop or one of the rear tires will skid. Hi or low range. But not in auto.
If it rolls freely the transfer case is not locking.
