I kinda had a feeling about something like that Jon.

It depends entirely on the amount of change. Yes the PCM can handle little things, but people underestimate exhaust restrictions. Ask James how much for your model of truck can be helped with new tuning. You can gain by tuning for every little change, but of course that's not simple or cheap to do.

The PCM can keep it completely drivable with all of these changes, but most people would be surprised by what can be gained with tuning. Ask Jon what he gained when he finally fixed his tune after living with the stock tune for so long.

I'd bet you can gain some mileage, and given the cost of gas, that's almost an easy choice if you have a flasher.

sounds mean tek i like it

i can't wait until i do a b18 swap in my explorer and put a grape fruit shooter on it.

just want to double check if someone can help me out.

2000 Mountaineer V8 AWD

the dual pipes going into the muffler are 2.25" correct?
is that the size of the one going out as well?

I'm trying to get a muffler I can simply cut the pipe and secure without having to weld, Is this a possibility?

I want the same setup as stock (dual in, single out)

would this one work? or do the inlets need to be bigger/smaller?

Yes, basically 2.25" from headers to tip. There is a tight necked down spot after the muffler that is closer to 2.125", but the muffler is 2.25" at all outlets.

To clarify, no that muffler that you posted wont work. That is for a camaro which has completely different styles of muffler then conventional. You would need a muffler like the following

http://www.summitracing.com/search/...tity/Dual/Outlet-Quantity/Single/?Ns=Rank|Asc

As you can see, the choices are pretty limited plus youd have to change the tailpipe diameter to 2.5"- but you get the idea. Now as for the outlet of the tail pipe. I dont know if you need a center or offset outlet for this. Perhaps someone else can chime in

oh ok thank you for that information. as I stated I'm looking for a system I can cut and bolt the muffler in without having to weld anything. I'm guessing I need a 2" inlet then, or 2 1/2. I'm not too worried about the outlet size, I can always run new pipe I'm just trying to avoid doing a whole set up so to speak (low on cash and knowledge)

Yeah I mean hopefully someone else can chime in. I have the 4.0 motor so I dont know tooo much about the 5.0. I do know if you get a dual 2.25" muffler, most muffler shops will weld it up for you with a custom tail pipe for pretty cheap. Shop around!

So with my dual side exhaust setup, it sounds pretty good and increased my MPG but it tends to drone right in between 100-120km/h so after 2000 rpms. I was going to try switching to an X-pipe to see if it changes the rpms that it drones but I was thinking if the TMH will change the sound I'll go that route. Did anyone who had modified exhaust before that droned find that the TMH changed the drone? or eliminated it?

I might have to hang some weights underneath it.

nate u got sound clip of ur exhaust

No, I don't have a video camera

5.0 headers

I realize that TM headers are the ultimate solution to making a 5.0 breathe.
However...if one doesn't have that kind of money, is there any other alternative to stock exhaust manifolds?

Not really......save up and do it it right the first time. There's never money to do it right the first time but there's always money to do it over lol

On my '98 5.0 Mounty, I recently had the stock exhaust system upgraded with a Magnaflow 12368, which is a dual 2.5 in and single 2.5 out, with new 2.5 stainless tailpipe and stainless tip. Got rid of the resonator, too. Sound and runs awesome!!

Exhaust

Leon63,
Did you keep the stock manifolds? Also, what kind of mileage are you getting?
Apparently we live about 15 minutes from one another so driving conditions are probably similar:burnout:

I have stock manifolds which are leaking a bit; my plan is to get TM headers this summer.
I had the muffler work done at Goofy's in Glenwood -- extra clean job.
Regarding mileage, I've never really checked...
Later,
Dan

wow

so this is a clip of my exhaust without the muffler or pipes yet, it's loooooud and definitely not neighborhood friendly....:D
