sounds awesome

Cherry bomb Elite Is also an x pipe

I chopped off the stock tourniquet and put on a two inlet two outlet open chamber cherry bomb elite of flow-master quality muffler. Best 88 bucks I ever spent. Its an X pipe and muffler in one!

Well, it was a thought, check here first in this thread. Truck is still on the hoist at my friend and Brothers house. What a nightmare, things just keep breaking, must have been build with some crap steel. Left manifold had to come off, studs broke off. Then the dip stick tube. Can't get back to it untill Wednesday when we are both off work. Once we get the cat's installed back on we'll see if the lack of power is still there. I was told the cat's were plugged up causing the falling on it's face issue. No codes to indicate a problem like this. Next will be muffler as the culprit to investigate. 300,000 miles and it's still the original exhaust, so we have to look at everything.

UPDATE !!

Ended up being a fuel pump failure, discovered the pump died when it wouldn't start after replacing the battery. Took me this long to scrape up the money plus the wife's car meeting with it's early exit in life, I had to get it running. Sock filter on the pump fell off, sucking all of the garbage in the tank and committing sucicide. New pump, new filters, runs awesome, even with 300,000 miles on it. Need to finish some small items on it and drive it to be sure everything is ok. AWD has a shutter right now since it's been sitting awhile. 99 Sport gets exhaust first, it gutted itself after 146,000 miles and it's still the original, like the 2001, 300,000 miles and still original.

I also had to change to a heavy weight oil with the miles, the thin stuff causes the pressure gauge to bottom out. I need to add REAL pressure gauges to both of these. If only I could find some used parts at a reasonable price in the Detroit area. Seems like Explorer parts here are made of Gold! As many that were scrapped with the clunker program, prices are thru the roof.

Where are the exhaust mail order deals? I can find many at 270.00 and up. I want to change thes out with some noisy muff's like the series 40, 2 in and one out, no duals.

Check with Karl here about parts, he is a vender and has lots of Explorer parts. Check the main site for a link at the bottom.

now on my 95GT it had all 4 cats and the stock H-pipe and no mufflers....it sounded awesome! no drone, and only loud when you get on it.

I was thinking since the TM headers are going to be awhile, to chop off the Y-pipe and muffler and run 2 2.5" straight pipes back.....has anyone tried this yet?

Exhuast

I got Magnaflow 40series muffler exhaust from the cats back true duals is the way to go

no I mean true duel, no muffler. just 2 front cats, mid pipe and 2 seperate pipes back.

i had true duals but the cops busted me for them, im pretty well known from them

What do you mean they busted you for them?

no mufflers is a $300 fine, so thats what he probably means. Where I'm running mine along the running boards, if needs be I can put in bullet style mufflers. it's going to be similar to the lightning setup. I'm going to do a 0-60 vid tonight since I'm getting the exhaust tomorrow, then I will see if there is any performance and how much with the stock headers and upgraded catback.

there were to loud, i guess they town has a big problem with loud exhaust, i guess a few 20 people have complained about my exhaust

I just had my rear cats removed last night. Nice improvement. Not TERRIBLY louder but more throatier slightly deeper and more aggressive! Has that More Hollowier flowmaster mustang sound. Vid to come soon!

well where the rear cats were, I cut those off and put in an H-pipe, then immediately branched the pipes off right and left, the drivers side goes right underneath where the driveshaft and tranny meet and then both go under the frame rail (it has a slope going up so its perfect and doesnt hang as low as the lowest part which is the gas tank) and then both run back between the frame rail and running board on each side and dump out just infront of the rear tires. it's truly perfect! I get my spare, loud but not to loud exhaust with a great mellow tone from the those mufflers ( 2 magnaflow 20" long 4" round) I'm using now. no resistance and sounds great, can't go wrong! You could also try and X-pipe for higher throatier sound. Highly recommended setup for someone who wants louder but not REALLY REALLY loud and sounds good

yeah we just put some piping in the cats place from Oreily's and clamped them on for the time being. I already know it hasn't hurt my performance. Really can't tell if it improved or improved fuel mileage!

I know I dont have a V8 but I have built a offroad Y pipe and I do agree- removing cats do produce the hollower mustang sound. I will say that low end torque has dropped but nothing too bug to really notice unless you get on it. Gas milege didnt go up thou :-/ I am throwing a high flow cat on this weekend from Magnaflow. Bye bye hollow sound :-(

Hmm I havent really noticed a low end torque decrease so far. Maybe because it's a V8 versus a V6?

You have got to retune the PCM when you make big changes to airflow. There is no loss of power at any rpm if you retune it. You only gain power(at all rpm's) when you increase airflow in or out, if you retune the engine.

This is old school knowledge. If you take an old car, and bolt on headers(old cars had really bad manifolds(like the Explorer V8 headers)), the carburetor must be richened up. The engine is running leaner with the higher airflow, it needs more fuel. That will not decrease the fuel mileage, it corrects the A/F ratio. You get more power, not less, if you retune the engine.

Are you suggesting now that I removed the rear cats, that I'm gonna have to have my tune modified now? I never realized that if that's true, would it be as simple as turning the A/F mixture up a notch or am I gonna need a new tune by James?
