Ahh... that makes sense. Just trying to find a way get true duals. My exhaust guy says it is very difficult to get two pipes out the back with all the stuff in the way... lol and I thought the Tbird was difficult.
You can fit duals out the back , my first set on my sport was done by a muffler shop, I still had the spare tire and hitch on it at the time, they came out on the outside of the spring shackles

So I am wanting to remove my secondary cats and resonator, but Im not sure of the consequences in removing the rear cats. My truck is just a back and forth to work vehicle/toy and its all highway driven 40 miles round trip. im looking for that decent 5.0 sound on a budget but dont want any real negative effects. Any feedback?
I made a newer video of the truck recently. This is pretty much what a 5.0 truck will sound like with open exhaust. No rear cats and high flow fronts. This is not the normal exhaust sound though. They're galvanized pipes with end caps just before the mufflers. A true crossover would probably clean the sound up a bit I'm betting. Still got plans to do that hopefully this year sometime!
Thought I'd share my recent experience to this huge database of a thread. Just finished running duals on mine. I was after fox body Flowmaster sound. After removing the rear cats I fabbed an H-pipe that bolted to the flanges. Then 2 Flowmaster Super 40's and dual 2.5 inch tails both on pass side approximately in stock location. I do not recommend this as it was incredibly difficult. I fabbed everything from a universal mandrel bent rod builder kit.
The tone is very good, not quite Mustang still, but not as loud as I had hoped. Very little drone from the Super 40's, I was pleasantly surprised.
What I ended up doing on mine was rear cat delet then a dual 2.5 in and out cherry bomb extreme it's there version of the flow master 10 series ( no packing just a fully welded and bafles) then ran dual out one on etch side. I have a crappy video of it I couldn't rev it to hard in the video since my neighbor works nights.
So here it is I'll try to get a better one in tomorrow. Just click on pic
Too bad this thread doesn't get much action anymore. I'm supper happy with my exhaust and I'd really like to know how people like the sound of my expo compared to everyone else.
its a 97 5.0L with stock manifolds and the first set of cats into an X-Pipe then a Spintech muffler with a 3in turndown.
I'v had 5 different V8 Explorers and I have always wanted to put this combo on one so I am very excited and happy with the way it turned out.
Just got my exhaust Put on. Lost the second set of cats, got a dual in single out flowmaster and a single 3" exhaust out the back. Sounds good (wish it was a little louder) but not gonna complain for $250.
I have true dual exhuast with glasspacks, angled out the back behind either tire. Sounds great, and would sound better if my passenger side manifold wasn't cracked. Now I'm just looking for a set of headers, but I'm not coming up with anything
Flowmaster now offers the 10 series in a dual 2.5'' In/Out format. I just about messed myself since i have these on my '05 GT and love them. Got one ordered in for my Explorer now that'll replace my Dual In/Out 40 series and will have a cross-over installed as well. Stay tuned in the following weeks for a video. I can't wait to hear the results.
