Sorry if I'm cluttering this forum, nobody was answering on my tranny thread that I bumped countless times, so...(Also Pm'ed NICE59FORDF100 and he never replied, don't know why, but anyway)
-I have a 1996 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4X4 4.0 V6 with 197k
-The 4R55E transmission is acting up. (reverse doesn't work, rough shifts, transmission drips like a siv)
-I have a 5R55E transmission I got from the JY from a 1998 Ford Explorer Sport 4.0 V6
-I know that the 5R and the 4R have their differences BUT there are some people on this forum that obviously have no idea what they're talking about, and some that do. The information is mixed up...E-How told me that to swap the 5R in place of the 4R is just a matter of taking the 4R out, and putting the 5R in. Nothing else. rickybobby also told me on another thread that those instructions are correct.
-What is ABSOLUTELY necessary to do in swapping the 5R in place of the 4R? I've read that the valve bodies are different, but then this other guy doesn't swap that and it works. Other things I read is that there are different shifting solenoids and sensors, but yet again, a guy puty his 5R in place of his 4R without swapping anything, and it worked. This other guy did the same, and it DIDN'T work. I just want the clear necessary things in order to make the 5R compatible with my 1996 Ford Explorer 4X4 4.0 V6!!
I would really love if somebody would lay this stuff out for me, and once again, I know there are other threads on this, but the information is scattered and different throughout this forum and everywhere else...
Thanks so much!!
