Hey guys I have 1999 ford explorer sport AWD with 183000 miles on it and I'm haveing the o/d light flash at me...the only symptom I have is when I'm on the highway I notice sometimes that the truck won't go into o/d and sometimes it will and when it doesn't the light will come on about a min later, and also it will randomly come on when im driving on backstreets going under 50 mph. Now I've had the truck since it had 92000 on it and I've unfortunately never changed the trans fluid on it... I just want your guys opinions on what I should do, I work at a hydraulic and welding shop so I have access to a lot of tools and a trans swap wouldn't b that big of a deal but I almost feel like I dont need to
Go that far cause the problem really isn't that bad it's more of an annoyance then anything so any help would be appreciated thanks.

What does the fluid look like, on the dipstick?
I am guessing your torque converter is not locking up reliably. Could be a number of things. Don't keep driving it, things will only get worse.

The fluids a little dark but doesn't smell burnt or anything like that... The light first started flashing prob about 20000 miles ago but it was very rare and would only happen like once a month but I'd say the past 7-8000 miles it's been coming on almost every time I drive it.

All too familiar...
