I am having the 2-3 shift flare problem discussed in the article below. I heard from some mechanics that I needed a rebuild. A good tranny mechanic I know had this article and said he sees the problem often. Rebuild rarely required, just a little knowledge.

If you are having the problem take this to your mechanic.

I still do not know what people mean by 2-3 flair on their 5R55E trans. Since I am on my 3rd 5R55E trans in 60k miles (warranty thanks goodness ), shifting is sloppy but appears normal. Is their any way to bullet proof a 5R55E? When, not if this one goes, I want it bullet proof if possible.

Aside from regular maintenance and maybe adding an external filter or cooler I don't know if one could be made "bullet proof."

There are apparently some "updated" parts put in the trannys when they are torn up and rebuilt but I don't know what exactly.
