2007 4.0 5r55s dropped the transmission pan and changed the filter last night, went to refill it, put 5 quarts in, turned the truck on, waited 5 minutes pulled the hose off the refill adapter and only drops came out. I put another quart in and still only drops came out. I was expecting it to pour out in a stream from what I’ve seen on YouTube. From dropping the pan and changing the filter i got just under 5 quarts. I cautiously drove it around the block a few times after letting it idle for fifteen minutes and seemed to be driving the same as before.

did I under/over fill the transmission?
From the videos I’ve seen you run the truck for about 5 minutes to get to 80-120 then pull the hose while the truck is still running? Or do you shut it off?
If I overfilled the transmission by a quart will I have issues?
thank you for your help

I would fill it until fluid runs out of the inner plug, maybe the fluid was low before you changed the fluid. Check the cooler line connections at the radiator, we see them leak from there a lot.

no leaks anywhere I’m gonna throw two more quarts in and see if that gets me where I need to be at

Put 3 more quarts in just to be safe, came out in a steady stream and everything else went according to plan thanks for the help

One more place to look is your transfer case if you think you lost fluid.

Won’t loose fluid in transfer case as transmission and T case are both separate sealed units.

Yeah the extra 3 quarts I had were supposed to go into the transfer case, once I get more I’ll be changing that fluid as well
