4.6 V-8s are all basically the same. But, certain differences exist in some things like exhaust manifolds, tuning of the engine (different injector sizes, etc.), so the computers are different. You would need to take special notice of those differences, and use the necessary specific parts off your Mercury engine on the replacement engine. imp

Edit: BE SURE the replacement engine is NOT of the Double Overhead Cam type, before going any further. BOTH DOHC and SOHC were used in Mustangs......

T-45 not t-5. The t-5 was used with the 5.0l.

The 4.6l, starting in '96, got the t-45.

Then, 4.6L clutch housing bolt pattern is DIFFERENT from 5.0L? imp

Yes, the 4.6l, 5.4l and 6.8l(v10) mod motors use a different bolt pattern then the windsor motors.

Thank you! A good thing for me to know....Do they match any other older Ford blocks?

In the day, the big, round, back-end of Ford FE blocks was all alike, from 332 to 430 cu. in. imp

So i can look for Any 4.6L 5.4L or V10 vehicle and i can be able to make a tranny swap
from my 5R55W to a (Correction) T-45
Thanks for the info! :D
I've been trying to find a 96+ mustang or F-150 having a 2valve 281 engine to make it happends
Also been trying to find info about Volvo since they say the are similar and ppl used to attach Ford's 302's into those volvo and will fits great

Also Got a friend offereing me 2 cobra heads
since a guy asking him to fix them and he never came back to pay the 350$ job and he tould me u gve me $300 and their urs.. and ...
im thiking it since i would need to find my self how to adapt it and find a intake manifold and sush... and all thosse sensor and crap WOW just find it a bit .........
just preffere to do a turbo i think is easier and maybe cheaper and more fun
than having a 32Valve V8 281 SUV

IMO the easiest way to do an engine swap is to buy a smashed donor vehicle with the drivetrain you are looking for (mangled stang maybe) and then you have everything you need: wiring harnesses, computer(s), transmission, rad (maybe if it's not trashed), driveshaft yoke etc etc.

Good luck with your project!

So.. True....... Guees what! just what i was expecting so my time is kinda of running up!! :(:(:( my tranny is acting stupid ... and drags.... it just sucks an dI aint fixing a crappy tranny .... y prefer buying any other car since it will just end up broken again...!! :(

I luv my Mercury Mountaineer but.... tranny is just to much to handle... swap to a Manual tranny
thinking of finnding a 99-03 4.6L mustang to get the job done....
what make sme think is the part of the clutch pump assembly & pedal

saw a Few days ago a 94 Explorer with a 5.0 Manual trans
my eyes teared of joy..! he put 1rst gear and left switching gears happly ever after. i went into depression when i got in mine LOL
