85 Ford Ranger engine

My engine is dead(I think). I don't want to start it because I'm pretty sure it will seize. Crank shaft had been whining for a while now it sounds like I broke a piston. I want to keep the truck and just put a new(er) engine in it. It is a 2.3 A engine with the steel oil pan and 4 speed tranny. I do not want to change the transmission just the engine. What will work?????

just swap in the same thing. If you are mechanically inclined, you can have it going in a weekend for only a couple hundred bucks in fluids, gaskets and filters, plus the cost of the engine.
