I need help with my 86 Ford Ranger witn a 2.9L V6, it has two fuel pumps and they don't come on, I replaced the relay switch and they still don't work. I can send power to the fuel pumps and then they will come on. Do you have any suggestions?

did you check the inertia switch and the fuse?

Next step would be to check the output from the PCM (computer) itself.

Also check the black/pink wire connection under your brake booster, this is the feed wire from the relay, there is a simple plastic connector that can get corroded, etc.

With dual tanks, power to the pumps is fed directly through the selector switch. Replaced quite a few of those.

Does the relay actually engage? A test light would come in handy to ck. it.

I think I actually figured it out. I told my dad to get a fuel pump relay and so I replace it. I was searching around for a fuel pump relay pictues and it was different, so my dad told the guy the wrong thing or the guy gave me the wrong relay, so tomorrow I am going in to town to pick up a fuel pump relay instead of a eec relay.
Thanks for your suggestions and if this doesn't work then I will try your suggestion or idea.

there are two types of 12v relays in your Ford. 4 prong and 5 prong.

The color does not matter.
As long as you use the correct number of prong relay it will work.

A simple test light or multimeter can tell you if power is being sent to the relay, the then the + signal is coming from the PCM.

the inertia switch should be checked first, it could be a simple push of a button.

have you ever had these problems before?

I don't know how to post pictures so I will show you how to get there. Go to Napaonline.com, then go to products, search for relays & switches, for a 1986 Ford Ranger with a 2.9L V6. Click on fuel pump relay and see look at it and tell me if that is what it is supposed to look like, I got the on right above it. I hope you can help me with this aggrivating and annoying little problem, Thanks for your support and help
