88 Bronco II + 93 Explorer = Short and powerfull

Bah,

Rookie.

Look at all them switches.
Driving lights
Backup lights
Rock lights
Winch
E-locker front
E locker rear
Air compressor

Let's see, what else was I going to put in there?

Nice visors though:thumbsup:

Yeah, but none of the switches do anything:( I'm sure I'll figure something out for them though. That remoinds me, I still need to track down all the wiring for thoses. I found some marine grade wiring under the hood coiled up neatly under the air box so I figure that wasn't stock and left it for future use.

One of them was for fog lights in the grill. The fuse block is right under the switches in the console. I don't remember if I ran wiring anywhere else. And YES it was all marine grade:D

I wish I would have drove my BroncoII with just the 4.o in it, before I swapped axles and put the 37's on. It seems underpowered on the street on the trail it is fine

Don't 4.56's match up with 33's? no wonder it seems underpowered on the street.

Kevin will be running 3.73's on 28" tires, that oughta be hella fun

I'm gonna do it in stages. I am going to play it with it with the 7.5" with the 5.55's, then I'll put in the 8.8 with the 3.73's welded. I know Show's ranger with the 4.0 and the 4.10's with a detroit on 29 inch tires was a blast.

Didn't get much done last night. However, it now has a new oil and 5 fresh quarts of oil in the pan. I am going to try to get the spark plugs replaced (broke the one right over the passenger side motor mount:( ) and the fuel pump harness ran tonight and maybe even fire it up :D

And yes, I know it is very dirty. It will all get cleaned up at the end.

What's that - - a bottle of Windex and a single paper towel...?

Looking great...

Might want to get your rear view mirror fixed too, its crooked.

And when did you get a travel trailer?

I ran 3.73's with 33's and it had PLENTY of get up and go. 5 Speed makes a big difference. With the 4.10's now it's a rocket. I can't imagine what it would be like with 4.88's or 5.13's.

Looking good. Brings back lots of memories of when I was putting mine together.

no its a Hobart H220 (or H110 depending on application) locker

Had a little more progress this weekend. Saturday I went over to JPistheman's(Justin) house and helped him with his wiring for his power windows and showed him what he had left for the dash. On the way home I stopped and had a new flare and end on a brake line for me.

I spent Sunday replacing the brake line from the master cylinder back to the frame crossmember by the fuel tank. I used the Explorer rear brake line and had the shop flare and put the propper end on the master cylinder side. After that, I figure since the master cylinder had already drained all the fluid, now would be as good of time to install the extended brake lines as any.

Well, learned something new. After 20 years, the brake lines are really hard to get apart with out breaking them. So off to Schucks I went to purchase my very own double flaring tool and some new fittings for the front brake lines. It took a little longer than expected, but it's all good.

Oh yeah, Friday night finished topping off fluids and decided to throw the battery in so I could hear if the fuel pump was cycling and check lights. Satisfied with the lights and fuel pump and fuel gauge reading, I bumped the starter just to ensure that that wiring was correct and to my surprise, she fired right up. I sat there for a few seconds in shock cause all I thought I did was bump the starter, but then woke up, grabbed the water bottle and started filling the radiator. The lifters were a little dry, but after about 5 minutes of running, the ticking and clicking went away. I've got a CEL but I am pretty sure it's just an bad O2 sensor or EGR sytem as the motor idles smooth and some quick testing of the top sensors (MAF, IAC, and TPS) checked out okay.

Nice!!!! Running 4.0L BII = fun times ahead!

good to hear kevin! i'm excited to get mine done and basically have two identical broncos. do you already have the lift thats going on your bronco?

thats right i forgot that he is working with your old bronco. haha.

UPDATE :D

The rear axle is in. The Explorer 8.8 had to have it's stock leaf spring pads removed as the inboard U-bolt was right on the edge of it and in the way. I cut the shock mounts off the 7.5" and weelded them on to the 8.8. I wasn't able to use either the BII or the Explorer rear sway bar, oh well, my Explorer hasn't had sway bars since before it was still a daily driver. I'll hang on to them for now, but I think the front one will be sufficient.

The spider gears have been welded and I simply removed the Explorer E-brake lines and connected the BII ones. There is a little bit of binding on the rear drive shaft u-joints at fool droop on both sides, but honestly, how often does that happen? As long as I don't jump it we should be good. I think part of that is the fact that I did it right and matched the front and rear u-joint angles instead of pointing the pinion directly at the t-case like a usually do. The other issue might be too much lift for the shorter BII driveshaft. I'm using 4" lift springs and belltech shackles. I'll have to find some stock BII shackles(anybody got a set laying around?) if I have problems in the future. For now, good enough.

next time you stop by grab a set i got a couple.

i got a **** load done to my rig today ill update it in a minute haha.
